Anyone here tryiing to lose weight?
Right now I weigh about 91000 grams :snake: (200lbs)

I'm working on losing about 15lbs. I'm trying to get back down to where I was after high school.

Anyone else have any weight goals?

I currently spend 2 hours a day 6 days a week in the gym with a trainer.. three weeks ago I weighed 188 lbs.. As of yester day I weigh 179..

I spend 45 minutes -1 hour doing weights and the other time I'm doing Cardio..I've gotten to where I can Jog 2 miles and still walk down the steps at the gym.. :D my eating habits have completely changed to help things out.. After all cookie dough ice cream at 1 am is bad for the weight loss.

My goal is 155.. by spring.

    Not really goals.
I have seen the light lately -LOL- and would like to live a long healthy life.
I'm starting to watch what I eat and exercise more.
    Good luck to everyone!
I weighed 139 pounds when I joined the National Guard at 19 years old. Now 34 and about 205!

    Good luck!

I'm also seeing a trainer, but he's more for just kicking my butt to move. lol

I ride (bicycles) quite a bit, so I'm good on cardio and my legs are tree trunks, I just have a slightly flabby weak upper body.

Well my trainer is there to make sure I'm doing the exercises right and would hurt myself. I'm really excited to see the results in a few months..

I can tell I've lost some weight just by the way my jeans fit these days.

I am up at about 170 right now and would love to get back down to about 150 or 155. I started my "program" this week so I figure if I just stick with it that I should be where I want by about next summer.

I was weighing about 195 at the end of July and now weigh 160. All I have been doing is taking my dog for long long walks/jogs. About 5-10 miles a day and push ups in morning/whenever/night, and weightlifting for endurance 5 days a week.

I got your secret. Do what I did. Stop all exercise (I swam for 10 years and quit last fall). Then you join a fraternity and drink lots of beer. I'm just guessing this isn't the type of weight you're trying to add though.

Re: Anyone here tryiing to lose weight?
I actually just started working out and joined my very first gym. :D I'm in the military, so I have to keep a certain minimum, but my weight's been slowly creeping up on me, so now I'm about 15 lbs above my ideal weight and freaking out.

I do PT 3x per week for work, then go to the gym every night and do 30 min to an hour of cardio. My biggest problem is how much I love food, so I've been using this cool website called SparkPeople. It's got a meal tracker which lets you realize how many calories you're eating each day. It was a real wake-up call for me. I used to eat a bowl of popcorn for dinner some nights, thinking it was a light meal. Turns out to have almost 900 calories. :O I've definitely started looking at labels more closely.

Good luck, everyone! I think our society tries its best to make us fat, and it takes a lot of fortitude to go against the flow. :gj:

Re: Anyone here tryiing to lose weight?
I'm always trying to lose weight, LOL... I've struggled with it since I was a teenager, and have my dad's side of the family to thank for that. Even when I was figure skating 3-5 hours a day, I was still the "chubby girl" on the ice. Anyway, I've come to terms with that over the years, and am actually healthier now than I was in high school.

Six years ago I weighed 250 lbs (I'm just shy of 5'6"), and now I'm around 195... 55 lbs down, and I'd like to lose another 25-30. I've been every weight from 130-250 in my adult years, and found that my large frame looks best around 155-165 - so I just want to be somewhere in that ballpark. It's tough, though!! I hit a plateau about 2 years ago, and haven't lost (or gained) anything since... time to step things up, I guess.

Fyi, I don't believe in DIEts, and don't follow any particular routine - mostly because my schedule is too erratic. I just try to do something active every day, usually walking/hiking with my dog... also love yoga and calisthenics, which I usually do with videos at home. I'm very limited because of a bum knee (old skating injury, surgery recommended years ago), so it's low-impact or nothing until that's fixed. Weight loss can be really frustrating, but unfortunately for some of us it's just a way of life. Good luck to everyone here! :gj:

Re: Anyone here tryiing to lose weight?
My boyfriend and I have joined the gym (again) about 6-7 months ago. I must say, working out is so much better than gaming on the internet. We used to "raid" on World of Warcraft for 20+ hours a week! Dumped that, got into the gym and started eating healthier. I'd much prefer this over any game!

So far I've lost ~22 pounds. I'm looking to lose around 20 more, maybe 30. I've always been on the chunkier side so I really don't know how much body will look without all this extra weight. I have changed my diet a little, I try to eat as much fiber and protein as I can, in little amounts that way I don't feel the need to go grab some sugar. I recently made these fiber muffins from the brand Fiber One, and put a scoop of protein powder in them. They turned out really good, and I'll be keep those in the house more often!

My boyfriend has gained about ~10 pounds, all muscle. He, of course, had muscle memory so he put it all back on pretty fast. I'm going slow and steady, and we're meeting in the middle!

Good luck to everyone else who is trying to lose weight! It's an amazing adventure to see how your body can transform!

LMAO - It's true though, swimming is great! I love to swim, and lost 30lbs when I lived in an apartment with a pool. Now I live in the middle of the city, and it's hard to find a place to swim... so I recently joined 24-hour Fitness, mostly to get access to their pool. Re: Anyone here tryiing to lose weight?
Oh, and although I said earlier that I don't believe in diets, I do believe in eating well. :gj: I don't deprive myself or count calories, but think about everything that goes into my mouth - and have learned to read labels. I also cut things out of my diet gradually, over the first year of my "lifestyle change," as I call it.

First I cut out fast food, anything deep-fried, and ALL meat except occasional chicken & turkey... fish is super healthy too, but I can't stand it, and I don't eat pork for religious reasons. It was hard cutting out the beef, though, since I used to love a good cheeseburger or steak. I learned that ground turkey - which is usually 99% fat free - makes a great substitute in spaghetti, meatloaf, and as burgers. It's all about healthy but tasty substitutions, at least for me. And of course I try to avoid overloading on sugar & carbs, but my sweet-tooth wins over once in a while. Thinking about baking some cookies right now... mmmmmmm. ;)

P.S. I suggest you all check out the book "Eat This, Not That" (has a few volumes now). It shows you which foods to select at restaurants & grocery stores, and some of the choices will surprise you! For instance, did you know a glazed donut is better than a bagel with cream cheese??

A diet includes daily food plans, counting/tracking calories, NEVER eating certain things, adding points (Weight Watchers), and basically depriving & monitoring yourself 24/7. My "lifestyle change" is not anything hard-and-fast, and doesn't require any real thought on my part. And with the way I did it very gradually, my eating habits changed before I even realized it. So there is a difference, it's just hard to explain... LOL.

Yup... but you are right, a plain bagel is completely useless. :P Another tip, if you're a coffee drinker like myself, gradually cut out the cream & sugar (if you use it). I just started adding less and less, and now all I use is a tiny splash of non-fat milk - or take it black. And definitely no "fancy coffee drinks" or smoothies, as they can be silent killers... a frappuchino has up to 400 calories, nearly of half of which is fat, and some Jamba Juices have over 800 calories per cup. :O:colbert:

A diet is what you sustain on. If I ate twinkies and drank coke for all my meals, then I would be on a diet of coke and twinkies.

TO diet, is the whole food plan, counting calories, cutting carb stuff that people do to lose weight.

Big difference between the noun and the verb, just wanted to make that clear.

I would argue that Weight Watchers is also a lifestyle change and not a diet. Yes, you do count points, but there's no "forbidden" food. When I was doing Weight Watchers faithfully, (and I really need to get back to it, I've just lost my motivation completely right now) tracking points was very similar to keeping a check-book.

When you make decisions on the "value" of an item you want to purchase, you usually weigh that against the amount of money in your checkbook and decide if you really need or want that item.

The same thing with the Weight Watcher's points. You start off with a "bank" of points. Say I want a Burrito Supreme from Taco Bell because I'm craving it. I know it's 8 points, and I have to determine if I want to "spend" that 8 points that badly. Is that Burrito Supreme "worth" the 8 points. Some days, yes - it was worth the 8 points, most days - nope, it wasn't - and that was ok. Because it WASN'T a forbidden food, and the points gave you tools to make decisions, it was easier to walk away from.

Had it been on a list of forbidden foods, and the Weight Watcher's plan was treated as a "diet", with very rigorous, black and white lines drawn in the sand, then it would be much harder to walk away from (at least for me and how my mind works).

Just my $.02. Although I've personally lost my motivation, I know that Weight Watchers is a good lifestyle change and that it works - I lost over 80 lbs on it without even trying (or so it felt). I got lazy and thought I could now make smart decisions without counting points. Bad choice - and I can make all kinds of "excuses", but it comes down to me getting back to that place mentally where I'm ready to take up that challenge and make better choices for me again. Haven't quite gotten there yet. But I'm working on it!

Nixer there are certain things that will put weight on faster than others.. How ever muscle weight and fat weight are two different things..

Your wanting to add muscle weight.. Protien for muscle building and carbs for energy..

Only take in the number of carbs you need to get r done though.. To many and they turn to simple sugar and thus to fat..

    My daily deal is

meal1: 1 cup oat meal (sweated with honey) two poached eggs, dry toast, cup of black coffee

    meal 2: Protein shake

Meal3: some sore of Protein..Chicken salad, tuna salad, and a fruit.

Meal 4: normally a carb bar

    work out

meal 5: baked fish or grill chicken, spinach salad, boiled egg.

And water I drink a gal of water through out the day.

No offense intended, but isn't this thread about losing weight? Sorry, but those of us with (extra) weight problems have enough to deal with - and don't need people making us envious/ill, with their woes of "I can't NOT be thin!" If you really want to discuss gaining weight, please start another thread for that... just sayin'.

I have to admit, WW is one of the better "lifestyles" or diets (however you refer to it). I went to WW for many years, and it served me well... I learned all the basics of eating right, exercising, paying attention to my body/health, and still remember some of the tips & recipes they taught. But my weight loss itself wasn't impressive, maybe 20 lbs total in the 5-6 years I did the program. I took the information they offered, and modified it to fit my lifestyle... only then did I really see the weight come off in good numbers. Oh, and getting a dog helped too - LOL. :)

Remember that you can be internally obese I have herd, you make be very thin on the outside but if you have a high fat/sugar diet then your arterys can still be laced with fat and you still run the risk of heart problems. Also your organs will be covered in fat, so just something to watch out for. Eat lots but make sure its not high sat fat, or super high sugar or salt.

    Good luck!

Update from me. I ended up losing 20lbs. I'm not 180lbs, and feel great.

I just starting doing portion control, and eating healthier food. I removed junk from my pantry. Makes a world of difference.

This topic is gonna get a lot of different replies, but that basically boils down to not everything is gonna work for everyone.

I've been at like all different ends of this spectrum. I'm 5'10" and I've been 145 with almost too low body fat, 235 with more than I care to share body fat, and 225 with only 10%. All that with just different goals in mind (except the fat one, that was just pure laziness).

Each individual needs a program that suits their own body and their own goals, there can never be a universal program that will work for every single person.

It's time for me to lose some weight - already started. It's a drag but do-able.
I basically pigged out for a year while I wrote my book, and now that it is finished it's time to diet for probably a year to peel it off. Not psyched, but ready.

I work out four times a week, but still need to lose some fat. I weight 200 now, and would like to be down to around 180, or so.

My weight loss plan involves working out for an hour 6x a week, and limiting calories most days to 1500 or less.

Last time I seriously tried to lose weight I dropped down to a size 0 on a similar program. I had abs!

I haven't read all of the replies, but all I have to say to someone that's trying to lose weight(fat) is PORTIONS, PORTIONS, PORTIONS!

...And excersize of course. But portions are something a huge amount of people over-indulge on. You may think you're eating something more healthy, but what good is eating something more healthy when you're going to be eating 4x of it.

    My success story:
    I've lost 50 lbs!

    At around my heaviest (170lbs):

After (you might have seen this pic on the pic thread, I'm on the right):

I've lost a little since this picture, but you get the jist of it.

Re: Anyone here tryiing to lose weight?
I'm trying, FINALLY. Horrible car crash in May, broke my femur in two places, my tibia and six ribs and am FINALLY able to get back to working out. Darn near a religious experience, being able to run again, albeit with a limp, lol! I wasn't sure I'd ever be able to walk again but physical therapy and my stubborn (or stupid, depending on who you ask, lol!) attitude made the difference. Now it's just a matter of losing the 20+ pounds I gained from sitting around for 3 months healing. Good luck to everyone on their individual endeavors!
