A diet includes daily food plans, counting/tracking calories, NEVER eating certain things, adding points (Weight Watchers), and basically depriving & monitoring yourself 24/7. My "lifestyle change" is not anything hard-and-fast, and doesn't require any real thought on my part. And with the way I did it very gradually, my eating habits changed before I even realized it. So there is a difference, it's just hard to explain... LOL.
opps,i forgot about the lil fun facts. the bagel is def healthier w/o the jelly and cream cheese(but a bagel plain?ew!)
its all how you eat the bagel
Yup... but you are right, a plain bagel is completely useless. Another tip, if you're a coffee drinker like myself, gradually cut out the cream & sugar (if you use it). I just started adding less and less, and now all I use is a tiny splash of non-fat milk - or take it black. And definitely no "fancy coffee drinks" or smoothies, as they can be silent killers... a frappuchino has up to 400 calories, nearly of half of which is fat, and some Jamba Juices have over 800 calories per cup.

A diet is what you sustain on. If I ate twinkies and drank coke for all my meals, then I would be on a diet of coke and twinkies.
TO diet, is the whole food plan, counting calories, cutting carb stuff that people do to lose weight.
Big difference between the noun and the verb, just wanted to make that clear.

I would argue that Weight Watchers is also a lifestyle change and not a diet. Yes, you do count points, but there's no "forbidden" food. When I was doing Weight Watchers faithfully, (and I really need to get back to it, I've just lost my motivation completely right now) tracking points was very similar to keeping a check-book.
When you make decisions on the "value" of an item you want to purchase, you usually weigh that against the amount of money in your checkbook and decide if you really need or want that item.
The same thing with the Weight Watcher's points. You start off with a "bank" of points. Say I want a Burrito Supreme from Taco Bell because I'm craving it. I know it's 8 points, and I have to determine if I want to "spend" that 8 points that badly. Is that Burrito Supreme "worth" the 8 points. Some days, yes - it was worth the 8 points, most days - nope, it wasn't - and that was ok. Because it WASN'T a forbidden food, and the points gave you tools to make decisions, it was easier to walk away from.
Had it been on a list of forbidden foods, and the Weight Watcher's plan was treated as a "diet", with very rigorous, black and white lines drawn in the sand, then it would be much harder to walk away from (at least for me and how my mind works).
Just my $.02. Although I've personally lost my motivation, I know that Weight Watchers is a good lifestyle change and that it works - I lost over 80 lbs on it without even trying (or so it felt). I got lazy and thought I could now make smart decisions without counting points. Bad choice - and I can make all kinds of "excuses", but it comes down to me getting back to that place mentally where I'm ready to take up that challenge and make better choices for me again. Haven't quite gotten there yet. But I'm working on it!

Re: Anyone here tryiing to lose weight?
Nixer there are certain things that will put weight on faster than others.. How ever muscle weight and fat weight are two different things..
Your wanting to add muscle weight.. Protien for muscle building and carbs for energy..
Only take in the number of carbs you need to get r done though.. To many and they turn to simple sugar and thus to fat..
My daily deal is
meal1: 1 cup oat meal (sweated with honey) two poached eggs, dry toast, cup of black coffee
meal 2: Protein shake
Meal3: some sore of Protein..Chicken salad, tuna salad, and a fruit.
Meal 4: normally a carb bar
work out
meal 5: baked fish or grill chicken, spinach salad, boiled egg.
And water I drink a gal of water through out the day.

No offense intended, but isn't this thread about losing weight? Sorry, but those of us with (extra) weight problems have enough to deal with - and don't need people making us envious/ill, with their woes of "I can't NOT be thin!" If you really want to discuss gaining weight, please start another thread for that... just sayin'.

I have to admit, WW is one of the better "lifestyles" or diets (however you refer to it). I went to WW for many years, and it served me well... I learned all the basics of eating right, exercising, paying attention to my body/health, and still remember some of the tips & recipes they taught. But my weight loss itself wasn't impressive, maybe 20 lbs total in the 5-6 years I did the program. I took the information they offered, and modified it to fit my lifestyle... only then did I really see the weight come off in good numbers. Oh, and getting a dog helped too - LOL.
