If he's not forbidden in the lease from having snakes, its a non-issue.. . local attitudes aren't relevant.. the wording on his lease is... He's looking to AVOID a problem during the inevitable occasional walk-throughs a landlord would be expected to make.
If snakes are not permitted on the lease, or if he's simply trying to avoid a pet deposit, then maybe that stern post is warranted. Was the original post edited because I see nothing that indicates he cant be a responsible keeper to his current or planned collection, other than being a snake guy in a community of snake haters...
