Purchase makes sense if person is planning to stay in an area long term. However, some RE markets are just impossibly inflated, and some people need more flexibility.
Personally, I don't care to rent, and esp. hate renting from any place run by a property mgt. company.

Re: Anti-landlord racks from beeger??
If I cannot get a well written lease that loosely written about pets, and a landlord that dousnt care what pets just says yes pets are OK without asking what all pets I have or something that I can use to save my butt. If that dousnt work I'll buy

Re: Anti-landlord racks from beeger??
The whole point of this is not to fool the landlord or screw him or her out of money. Unless I have legal stand way to stay where I'm at atleast for a limited time if he or she decided the snakes couldn't stay then I don't want it. I have no chances of getting a place where a landlord would be ok with a demonic flying mutant killer snake locked away even if you explained to them otherwise. I just want legal stand point and a rack that dousnt look suspicious, since this rack looks like a filing or gun cabinet with locks they wouldn't think about it, and if they did and I told them it would look very secure as to help persuade them there would be no lockpicking snakes able to get out.

Do NOT ever sneak pets into a renting unit, no matter the species. Your landlord WILL find out and you WILL be out on the street in a week.
Unfortunately you need to live by the rules your landlord sets, it is their property and they have the right to ban animals if they choose. Check into buying a house if you have the credit for it. It's a big step but there are 0 down USDA loans available and it's often better in the long run. Good luck!

Perhaps just try asking about reptiles or tank pets in general? If they say it's fine to have tank pets like reptiles or fish without any addendum or modification to the lease then that would be far better than lying and will also help people not slam their doors at the mere mention of the word "snake" and may provide some kind of protection from eviction. Someone else might want to weigh in on this method, as some landlords can still be unreasonable about things like this. When I moved my lease was unclear about tank pets, which means that they can basically interpret it however the leasing people choose to. Maintenance had to come in from day one because my apartment was in poor shape, but refused to come back when they found out about my snakes. The management is saying that the lease says no to exotic pets, which means the snakes can't stay but our bearded dragon is fine? Also yes, we were only ever able to get emergency maintenance (which is a separate team) out when the washing machine hookup out on the patio started flooding.
Certain other life changes already made it so I was going to have to rehome most of my collection anyway, but having that smack you in the face just sucks. Sure, I might have been able to rope a real estate lawyer or some kind of legal something in to force my apartment people to come out and fix their property, but that's not something I wanted to fight with or pay for. Fighting with your landlord is not a fun experience and certainly not a gamble I would advise you or anyone else to take.

If it doesn't say anything about not having snakes in the lease I guess I really wouldn't worry about it. If its state something like no dogs allowed or no cats allowed I would assume that everything else is allowed that's legal at least. You can also like someone else said, ask about something that you keep in a tank or a cage and if they ask like what just say like a reptile or a small rodent. I guess it's better to be careful and ask though. I would hate to have to get rid of snakes

This is actually a bad idea. You need to be up front and very clear about what you plan on keeping on their property. If they find out down the road that you weren't honest and clear with them, they have every right to deny you housing and put you on the street.
You absolutely and 100% need to sit down and discuss with the potential landlord what you plan on keeping in their building. There is no way around this.

Re: Anti-landlord racks from beeger??
I don't know about snakes, but when I moved into my apartment, the landlord asked me what pets I had, as there was a (no dog) 2 cat limit, I said I had 2 cats, three goldfish, and 2 ferrets. They initially said no to the ferrets because they said that 'rodents' were destructive and chewed on walls / wires. I had to spend the next 30 min describing that ferrets are mustelids not rodents and that they lived in a cage, not free-roaming. Finally they signed a paper stating the pets I had, and that they were all OK'd by property management. It may just take finding someone that is willing to at least listen. If you have a cage that has a locking lid, you could show them pictures of the locked tank and say that you only have one set of keys, they can't escape, and any other relevant facts about your pets that you can. I wish you luck.

Thank you for wanting to be a planned problem for the rest of those around you and those of us in this hobby that try to open peoples eyes.
That being said, why in your ever loving self centered mind would you take on more animals that you do not plan to be a responsible keeper to?
Yes it is a truthful question.
Did you ever think of how your actions represent the rest of those that are around you and those that may come after you?
PitOnTheProwl, honestly, who do you think you are? How do you find it appropriate to criticize someone, calling them 'self centered,' when you know nothing of who this individual is. Yet another despicable post by a moderator lashing out at strangers. You, and the majority of moderators love to condemn people for how their actions represent the reptile community. If anything, it is posts like the one above, and many more like it, that reflect horrifically on this site, its owners and the reptile community as a whole. What do you think the public thinks when they come to this site, and see nothing but belittling and berating comments coming from those that are supposed to be in charge? Shame on you.

You seem to think that the moderator title has anything to do with what I post. Then again you seem to think I wouldnt say the same thing face to face.
You sir have me confused with someone that cares what you think. You have already proven your stand on this hobby in past posts.
You may now go find someone else to antagonize.
