This is 100% correct. Do not use anything oil based on that injury. It will only make it worse. I don't use any neo on any injuries for a small one once in awhile it won't hurt. But this animal needs something going on that daily. The cream would be the best option. Clean with betadyne 2 x a day. To make it less stressful you could give him a betadyne solution soak. Water at 88.f mixed with beta until it's a dark tea color. Keep him on paper towel change every other day. The most important thing is to keep this as clean as possible so it doesn't Create a secondary infection.
I'm glad he is in a better place. He needs some good tlc now.
