I get guns for the purpose of hunting, that one is pretty obv, but I fail to see how its fun or protection. Arnt you going to get arrested if you actually shoot the attacker?

Yes I would shoot him until he hits the ground.

    Winchester 70-270 = $399.00

    Red Field 3-9X50 Scope = $225.00

    20 rounds .270 = $25.99

3 hours of shooting with friends = priceless

and that is just one weekend

If the person is threatening you or someone that you see it is your DUTY to protect them and your right to protect yourself.

We have "good samaritan laws" which state that if you see some one that needs help and you pass them up, you can be charged with a crime.

I mean if someone kicks in your door and sees you and then turns to run off and you still shoot them in the back then it is the same as murder. THat of course is the worst summary of a law that I could have come up with but you get the idea. :)

Texas has that law, I love it.

I carry my pistol on my home place, in my truck and at work. I don't have a CHL but I should get one. I am not the majority here, I walk in a gray area due to our state laws I could still get arrested.

If someone is on my property I can kill them, but I better be able to prove there was a life threatening situation.

I will not travel to states where my right to own a handgun isn't recognized. I don't feel safe in most places, there are crazies where you don't expect them also. I hope I don't have to pull my gun on someone but I'm glad I have the right to have it, and I support those who wish to never own one.

Um, "illuminate the threat" is what the tactical flashlight on your gun does. I think the word you're searching for is "eliminate." :)

(Sorry, even though we're on the same side on this issue, I couldn't resist; I grew up with an English teacher for a mom.)

And Ryu. Where I live (Ontario) that stuff doesn't really happen. Almost never. And I have insurance. Anything that a robber takes I get the money back for and then I get that same thing, only newer. And people here don't have guns. So I don't have to worry, I have two labs and an American bulldog who doesn't like loud noises or strangers making me say "ow".

I feel safe no matter where I go. To be honest over the last five years I think the only time I didn't feel safe was when I pulled out my walletto give a homeless person in Toronto a $5 and a twenty fell out.

Sure crime happens here but barely ever.

you're joking , right, to say people here don't have guns. I guess you never heard about the boxing day shootout downtown. Jane Creba , or about the shootings that happen around caribana each year.I won't speak for beamsville, but in Toronto, there's a lot of people carrying guns. And since its illegal to carry one here, its all the damn criminals that have them.

I know a guy in Jamaica that used to have the same philosophy of not believing in guns. He would always say "if someone is trying to rob you, just give it to them" or " if the guy knows you have a gun as well, they may just shoot you right away instead of robbing you"

All this changed when his wife's store got robbed and the guys ended up in a shootout with the security guards. There's no guarantee that a gun will help you in these situations , but I'd rather be firing back bullets instead of harsh words.

So I shot one of these today, in 9mm. The guy at the range suggested I try it - he was pushing it pretty hard. My personal preference for the layout of the control levers made it feel weird, but he kept saying it was such a great gun, so I figured I'd try it. It felt very solid and well built, plus of course CZ has a good reputation, and it feels good in my hand, but it turns out that it's not for me.

What I did not like about the controls: The slide riding inside the frame rails, instead of outside as is typical on most pistols, makes the area you grip in order to rack the slide smaller, and this made it more difficult to manipulate. It wasn't beyond my ability to do, but it wasn't comfortable either. I also disliked the position of and effort required to operate the slide release. It was too far forward on the frame for me to use it comfortably, and as compared to other guns, it seemed like a much higher amount of pressure was required to trip it.

I shot it side by side with a Sig P229 (also in 9mm) and found that I was much more accurate with the Sig. I'm not sure I can explain why, exactly, but that's the way it goes. The slide and slide release were also much easier for me to use. (The decocker lever was about a wash between them.) As the guy at the shop said after I came out of the range, if everything worked for everybody, there'd only be one brand and one model of gun out there. I still want to try out a Walther P99 AS and/or P99C AS at some point, but tracking one down that I can try without just buying it first seems difficult.

I couldnt agree with you more. I have to travel places for work that you will hear gun shots go off in broad day light. I have a family to protect as well as myself. I dont think everyone should be able to own a firearm of any sort but when respected nothing beats a day at the range or upstate on my land shooting all day with my pops and a bunch of close friends that i grew up with that are cops. I was raised from a little kid to always respect guns and never show any1 your weapon. My dad is retired detective and has told me all the horror stories of off duty cops thinking there guns are unloaded forget that the gun still has a bullet in the chamber take the clip out give the gun to someone to check out and next thing you know someone got hurt or even killed. Guns are not toys but when respected they are a lot of fun. p.s glock .45 is what i keep, as well as an Ak. Most of my friends have no idea i have either thats bc its not something that you show off to people. Treat a gun with respect and you have nothing to worry about. Abuse it and you dont want to find out the out come. Sorry its soo long but im bored and cant sleep since the accident i was in. Figured id throw my 2 cents in here hahah

Re: Got a new pistol today!
Now, im from Canada and theres 2 sides:

Number one: The side that says Canada has less gun crime per capita than the US. its a fact. Look it up

Number two: The guns are illegal so only criminals have it. This is also a fact in Canada

    And theres a possible third:

That CANADA. and the UNITED STATES. Are two different places with two different cultures and two different sets of laws regarding guns.

So the argument from somebody saying option one, is useless. because althought it is true, We also have less people living in Canada. Not to mention guns are illegal

So ofcourse there will be less gun crime

And somebody arguing for number two is just plain wrong because, again, although it is true, because guns are illegal it is hard for criminals to get them, and when they do thier victims dont end up getting shot because they pulled a 9 on the attacker

So there is 3 ways of looking at it imo.

And no, I dont care who owns guns or who doesn't. To each thier own

    Just my :twocents:

So far thats my only complaint about the gun, the slide is somewhat difficult to operate. More so than some other pistols anyhow. As far as compared to the Sig.. yeah I imagine the Sig is a better firearm. Its also about 500-600 dollars more, which is why I have the CZ :gj:

So far I love it though, Ive put about 300 rounds through it and great gun!

I don't know that I'd necessarily say the Sig is strictly better so much as better for me. You're absolutely correct that it's more expensive, and that factor is a part of my decision making process (no custom 1911s for me). Unfortunately, I don't think the CZ and I can get along well enough to make it worth the monetary savings vs the other options out there (same goes for glocks - they're inexpensive and good, but feel "wrong" in my hand). I'm looking to own one gun at this point, so finding something that fits me as perfectly as possible is more important than price, especially given that over time, ammunition will cost more than whatever gun I choose.

    Glad you're loving yours. :)
