I think the point of glue traps is that if you actually watch them, they are intended to be a no-kill solution. A simple google search would have told the vet how to get the snake off the glue trap without injury. A little bit of cooking oil and they come off nice and easy completely unharmed but maybe a little stressed. :(

Sigh...I supposed so, but how many people who want their rat/mouse infestation gone will actually check the traps, on a regular basis though? Maybe if you have a small infestation you would, but far too many people use them for large infestations (barn infestations etc etc) and the rats and mice end up starving or otherwise.

Anyways, that's not the point! I'm dumbfounded that they would use glue traps in a place that has animals that can escape and get caught in the glue traps themselves. That just seems irresponsible to me.
And the fact that the vet just ripped it off too...

Out of all of the injuries that I've seen on ball pythons, this guy really has a hold of my heart and I'm rooting for him!

This is 100% correct. Do not use anything oil based on that injury. It will only make it worse. I don't use any neo on any injuries for a small one once in awhile it won't hurt. But this animal needs something going on that daily. The cream would be the best option. Clean with betadyne 2 x a day. To make it less stressful you could give him a betadyne solution soak. Water at 88.f mixed with beta until it's a dark tea color. Keep him on paper towel change every other day. The most important thing is to keep this as clean as possible so it doesn't Create a secondary infection.
I'm glad he is in a better place. He needs some good tlc now.

Ugh! I hate glue traps as well. They are NOT humane, they are intended to trap and hold a pest until you find it and dispose of it, it starves to death or dies from stress. They are NOT designed so we can easily remove a trapped critter.

When I worked at a Petco (YEARS ago) they used glue traps. One day a co-worker unloaded baby corns into an insecure cage and they all escaped. I found ONE on a glue trap :mad:. It took me an hour to get it un-stuck with olive oil and no harm was done to it. Needless to say I threw out all the glue traps ;). Years later I found a mouse in a glue trap, and again, olive oil did the trick. I can't believe a VET just ripped it off and injured the snake! :mad:. Sorry, rant over...

Everyone gave great advice! Get him eating and in the proper set up and I have no doubt he'll pull through.

He will be taken care of. I figured he would have a huge scar on his side form this run in. But being small maybe he will be ok. He has made it this long. I don't care what he looks like he will always have a happy home.

Ps I need a good name. But he is not sexed and I'm not going to attempt to right now.

And also I think they had the humidity too high in his cage up there.

Glue traps suck. And they're expensive.

I use a tin cat trap. You bait it, sit it up against a wall, and sit back and let it work. Once you've caught them you can take it and dump it in a field.

Nice thing about a tin cat is that it can catch escaped feeder rodents without harm.

Elmer? You know...making light of the situation, name him after Elmer's Glue...poor thing lol.

Unfortunately a lot of vets are like doctors. No specialties and generalize all cats and dogs and don't know a lot about small animals. Yuck. I always have issues about feeding with my vets because they go with big name brands that pay them to advertise and the nutritional value just ISNT there. This is no better, in fact its much worse. To just rip off a mouse trap when I could have thought of many better ways to remove it despite the fact that I only went to school to be a vet for 2 years before changing my major.

we use something like this at work, unfortunately i think it has glue inside as well, but it gets wet so often the glue doesn't really work.
