Gas prices??? What are we to do??

I am going to start carpooling to work, which will essentially cut my gas costs in half. And then when my lease is up; I'm moving close enough to school/work that I can bike. Good for the environment; even better for my wallet.

Gas prices suck, but people will learn to adjust. It will be fine in the end.

Stop buying stuff that says "Made in China" (which is, unfortunately, almost everything, I'll admit). Cars, and cars in the US, make up a minority of world demand for oil. Industrializing nations, ie India and China are gobbling up oil and driving up prices. The demand for oil is so high there because so many companies are opening up factories...factories which use a lot of oil. So when you go to, Wal-mart for example, and get a great deal on a plasma TV you are paying for it every time you fill up your car.

Exactly. Another downside of that? All those factories pumping out crap into the atmosphere. But I won't get started on that...

Well gas is $3.59gl and it looks like it will go up again soon .So i sit around playing on the computer all day as its cheaper

For the most part I just don't get why people are complaining so much about gas prices. Most people spend ridiculous amounts of money on stuff they don't need. If they really need to drive then stop spending money on those other things. It's not that hard. I understand that there are exceptions to this but in general most people could just cut back somewhere else if driving is that important to them.

People are going to complain about price increases, regardless of how important it is. If milk went up to $10 a gallon, we'd all be rioting outside Publix. (Or Whole Foods in my case.) It's just what people do. They don't rationalize and go, "y'know, if I didn't buy those two bags of cookies, I could still afford milk and the grocery bill wouldn't be any higher than usual. That's swell!" (-lol-) It's a good point, but unfortunately, people aren't going to think that way.

My fiance and I are going to find out how long it takes to ride our bikes to work. Gas prices are 3.59 here. I have not filled up my car since last summer.

People are going to complain about gas prices. I complain all the time about gas prices. But you know what, I'm doing something about it. I'm driving less. We carpool. Do all of our errands in one go. Going to start biking to work (if its not too long of a bike ride.) We adapt to work around things. Some people just keep buying those big expensive cars that suck gas like a kid with a juicebox. My brother drives a mustang and has to fill up his car every other day to every two days because of the way he drives (street racing, showing off, speeding, ect). I drive like a granny and get by with only $20-$25 in my tank every week.

The way I see it, if people would start riding bikes, walking, jogging, ect to work/school/errands/ect. Then we'd be killing two birds with one stone. Keeping money in your wallet, and getting in shape while you do it.

Props to you! I can respect complaining about it if you are also doing something about it. That is the attitude that I like to see.

The price of gas is in everything you buy...from gas at the pump, to groceries, etc...eventually cutting back won't even be an option, assuming you want to eat.

That is true. It is in the price of everything. I think for the average person there will be areas where they can cut back. Obviously there will be people for whom cutting back isn't an option. For those people I agree that something needs to be done. Whether it be help with groceries or help with healthcare. I'm not belittling the problem. It really is an inconvenience for a lot of people.
