Jax is a cutie! I love Boa tongue shots too, they always come out good lol.
I have had so much fun with my boa. I am starting now to let the kids handle him, now that I have learned his temperament and know he is a sweety. I want him to be used to everything when he is an adult. Kind of like a well socialized dog in way

hehe, its like the boas hold their tounges out long enough for you to photograph them lol.. with the balls i wait and wait and wait. thats great your boa is such a sport about being handled thats certainly something i love about jax, i dont trust him yet with the kids and my husband wants nothing to do with him (doesnt really like him but doesnt give him a chance either, saw him strike at me the day we got him and every since wants nothing to do with him.. wimp lol) they really are neat animals. i LOVE your avatar

Re: Jaxson pics :)
Thanks, that shot came out really weird lol.
I know what you mean too, the day I got my boa, he was really stressed from the whole situation. I was holding him, about to put him away into his new tub, and BAM he struck right at my face. I saw him out of the corner of my eye, starting to shake a little like they do just before they strike their food. I pulled away just in time, and he missed my face by a second. Shaun saw the whole thing, and didn't want anything to do with him. Now he will hold him, once he realized that it was stress related, and he is really a total sweetheart, and really curious about everything. He hasn't even attempted to strike since.
He is also pretty easy to read. I can tell when its not a good day for the kids to be handling him. Other days its fine. I make them sit on the couch and let them hold him for a few minutes. He just wanders all over. Checking things out.

It can happen with BPs too (so tell your hubby not to be biased!)
I brought in a rescue from Cali a couple years ago. Unfortuntely, he was shipped on a Thursday in the dead of summer... and he got LOST during a storm in Kentucky. He was stuck in a warehouse with 90-95 degree weather all weekend.
The foster and I thought he was surely going to be dead. I called everywhere I could, no luck. So, Monday rolls around, I receive the package, dread what I'm going to find...
And out comes a beautiful three foot male BP. And he immediately bites me, twice in succession, lol. I tried to pick him up to put him back in the bag, and he tags me again. He was PEEVED.
But I tell you what... gave him time to settle, let him get a couple meals in him, and he never struck, hissed, or bit again. He's in a forever home now with another family member, and he hasn't hissed nor struck there either. Children have handled him without issue.
Snakes have bad days too
