Stuff you do when you take them out?

I took pictures of the whole room. To snake proof it, I had to add a guard (i don't know what they are actually called, the thing to keep bugs out) at the bottom of the closet door so that he doesn't get his head stuck in there. The main door is too low for him to stick his head under so that one was fine. I put covers on any unused plugs so that he can't stick his tongue in there. I do have a computer that involves a few cables but I have them on his tiny old tank that he doesn't use. I also have a heated blanket and the heat pad for under his tent that are plugged in, in other spots in the room, this is why I supervise him the whole time he is in there as I don't let him climb the cables and potentially half unplug something and zap himself. I also don't let him go near where the computer cables are propped up. So, it may not be entirely snake proofed but there is barely anywhere he can go and be bad. The computer chair may look dangerous but I ALWAYS look for and find the snake before ever moving that chair.

This one shows what I did to prevent him from going in the closet, it works wonders as he has tried very hard to get in and has never been able too. Also in this picture is his old tank with his favorite cave, he loves to go in there after he's done roaming around.


Here is his biggest and main gym that he uses, it was once for a macaw and now repurposed as a snake gym. The posters you see are pinned with pins that don't stick out so he can't possibly pull em out and it is a bunch of pictures of snake morphs for him to look at. 8"x10" were the biggest posters I could find of ball python morphs till i recently found some that are 36"x24", I have just ordered them and will be adding them to the room soon. This is Crowleys smallest and first gym he got, all used from old java and rope perches.


This is Crowleys medium size gym/perch. It is made for birds but works just as well for snakes. I also tie wrapped an extra perch to it, added a reptile hammock and some vine and foliage.


The last picture I have shows his scratching post, which is still very new, just got it last week. He went on it a few times but I have yet to see him really climb it. Also in the picture is his tent with the heat pad under it and another cave with a bed in it.


He is a very spoiled snake indeed but he is such a good little guy that he deserves it all. I love him so much and just love to spoil him as seeing him happy makes me happy.

Very nice. Do you not get a bit concerned with him climbing some of the higher gyms you’ve got?

I used to get concerned back when he just had the medium size gym/branch. Every time he climbed it, I'd put my hands underneath him in case I had to catch him. He has become an excellent climber since then, he learned to climb and balance very well on this little tree. Since he got the bigger stuff he hasn't even shown any sign of struggle at all to climb anything. He's a pro now and I don't worry about him falling. Also, I hear in the wild they climb trees much taller then what I have and are just fine when they end up falling. So, I may not be concerned about him falling anymore but I still watch him and make sure he's safe while he's out in his room.

That's amazing! Looking into building something like this for my Noodle at some point, must be great for exercise! The foliage is a really nice touch to provide some security while climbing

Love the secures duvet idea as well, I think my BP Noodle would love that indeed. Adding some plastic protection underneath is a good precaution too lol!

Your room is the envy of snakes everywhere... Well done!

And btw, what I really do when I take my snakes out varies (depending on the snake & the weather): I like to stroll in my back
yard with them for some natural sun (yard is about 2/3 shade) but I don't put them on the ground (too "buggy" here). I used to
have a "snake-safe" room & let them roam for exercise & a good game of hide & seek, but I no longer have that room & space.
I've noticed that many snakes get very mellow when I sit in a hammock or my rocker-recliner chair with them...even to the point
where they doze off. (admittedly does nothing for their "exercise" lol) And I let them explore my bed or couch with supervision,
or play in their "tree" (on a sturdy vertical stand).

I was kidding about playing chess: they cheat & clear the board with their tails...

We have a rocking chair in our snake room, so we "rock and roam" quite often! Pax likes to go up to my shoulders and try to coil around the rungs of the chair.

Otherwise he'll crawl into my sleeve or pant leg himself and then stick his head out, which is super cute.

Mine do the same, but instead of my climbing up my pant leg, they climb in through the "pee hole" in the front of my pajama pants. It was weird at first, considering the location they enter, but they obviously don't know "whats in there" hahaha.
They also love my hoodies. They'll hang out in the hood or the front pocket. They've become big fans of my hair too, now that it's long.

I used to have a little tree that I would put the boas in when smaller but most have outgrown it now, I often put them on a pair of step ladders, they quite enjoy the excersize on there and if I'm in the garden I've a shaped bay tree they like to explore in

I think step ladders are an excellent option. Plus they fold up out of the way.

Hahahaha, yup. Sometimes they'll just curl up there for a bit. Which makes sense, it's dark, warm and secure. And then I'll feel them moving and a little head pokes out, hahaha.

I let them crawl around my dining room chairs, but a step ladder is a great idea too.
