    and it's my pleasure.
I am a different person, but what if I have hide over the paper towel? hide being little heavy and snake won't able to lift it to go under the paper towel, do I still measure the temp under paper towel? or over paper towel where hide is at?

Let me tell you what i did. I got my tubs to 90 degrees over heat mat then put the paper in which then made the temp drop to about 85 apart from where i put a hide which stayed around 90, so if i raise the temp to get the tub back yo 90 then the hide will raise by another 5 degrees i assume.

yes, you measure underneath your paper towel. even if you THINK the snake can't get under there, i'd be willing to wager a bet that they WILL eventually. you need to measure from the ABSOLUTE HOTTEST part of the enclosure, otherwise you do not know the temperature of the hot spot, your hot spot will be running too hot, and you risk a burn.

i think you should experiment with raising the temp and checking that hot hide. the snake will be spending most of their time inside the hide, so absolutely take your measurement from inside the hide below the paper.

a big part of snake keeping involves independent research and figuring out what works for YOU as well as your snake(s). not everyone uses the same equipment, or lives in the same climate as you, so it's up to you to determine how you achieve proper husbandry.

if you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask.

I struggle with this too, as far as temps on the tub floor, and temps above the paper where they lay. I’ve come to a compromise, where I have it about 92 on the tub and 87-88 on the paper. Both of the temps are on the ideal range, so I’ve finally come to a fine-tuned solution.

That sounds like a good idea. Do you have the same issue with your hide temp being hotter than everywhere else?
