Tried Python sausage at the Big E

So this past weekend the girl and I went to the Big E (formerly the Eastern States Expo) which is a New England fair, basically a county fair on steroids. Based on my options, I opted to go for the Alligator burger and the Python & Rabbit sausage. Alligator and Rabbit I have eaten many timws, but decided to try Python. The gator burger was fantastic, seasoned well with Cajun spices. The sausage, unfortunately, was kinda lousy. I blame the preparation, though. The sausage itself was bland, only to be topped with over cooked peppers and onions which left the bin soggy and gross. I ended up tossing the bun and just eating the sausage. I will say I was disappointed, but I'm more than willing to try Python again in hopes that better prep will make for a better product. Anyway, I've seen a few threads like this recently and thought I'd share my experience.

I've heard that python and snake in general doesn't taste very good and is pretty bland anyways, that's why not many people eat it but I've never tried any for myself so I can't say lol. Still a cool experience to have regardless!

It's funny to me to see rabbit on the sign as if it was something rare and exotic, when I come from it's next to the chicken in the meat aisle of your local grocery store.

I think I would be most interested in trying kangaroo and python the most out of that menu (had rabbits, bison and gator many times already)

I wonder where they sourced the python meat? Also it's odd to have bad-tasting sausage, usually the spices make up for any deficiencies in the taste of the meat - though if python is mild maybe it would be better just sautéed in butter. Actually, almost anything tastes good sautéed in butter.

I've seen a few discussions on Facebook and other forums about eating python. If retics or burms get overproduced you may find them on the menu more and more - with morphs being sold as breeders/pets and the normals being raised for slaughter and leather. IMO this wouldn't be a bad thing as it would take some of the hunting pressure off of the wild populations.

i wanted to try this at our fair but got wierded out. i really wanted to try it but the python-rabbit, predator-prey combo wierded me out. i guess i realized that i don't like mixed meats. besides bacon on everything and some soups/stews, i don't like mixed meats. i don't even like a club sandwich lol.

I wondered where they sourced it as well, but they didn't seem like they wanted to be there, never mind answer questions. They probably didn't know anyway.
