What's your opinion?

I'm in the process of upgrading my snake cages. I'm getting pvc cages. What do you think about instead of using mulch or some other substrate or reptile carpet, I'm thinking about going with floor tiles. Been seeing it done on a few YouTube snake setup videos. So been wondering. They don't say any pros or cons to doing it.

this is from my own learnt knowledge so it all might not be correct:

the only con i have read to not using substrates is snakes "pancaking," or their muscles start to flatten because of the flat surface and they lose their round body shape. this info comes from threads and other articles i've read about topics of substrate. do some research on pancaking for yourself.

"Pancaking" can happen on paper too. You can get ceramic tiles that are rough, not smooth, that are designed for bathroom floors that get wet and you don't want a slippery floor.

If you want a softer, more forgiving surface that's still easily cleaned you could use textured vinyl flooring instead of tile. Just cut it to fit, glue it down, and seal the edges with a bead of silicone.

Yeah. That is what I was going to try to use. Vinyl flooring tiles. Those peel & stick kind. My deal I'm worried about most is if I use flooring tiles, then put on a UTH, is it still going to keep it warm in there. Its a 24x24x24 cage. Don't know how thick the floor is cuz I haven't received it yet. But it also has a built in heat lamp. (Don't worry. Heat lamp has a wire mesh shade. It won't burn them).

I was thinking the same thing. Adhesives, when warmed, often lose their holding strength and will become a hot, sticky mess.
Not something I personally would risk.

There may be adhesives that will work for this application and handle the heat, but I've never looked into it.

Going with ceramic tile and grout may work, but never looked into that either.

I just don't personally risk any combination of snakes and glues/adhesives.

But, like I said, I never looked into an adhesive that would work, so it may be available with a little research. Don't give up just based on my two cents.

I'm going to look into the adhesives part. And if I find any, will get it. If not, will just go with mulch. Better to have the BPs safe, rather than looking nice.

Many use hot glue guns for securing things down in vivs and rubs..
