You know kids these days, you can't tell them anything.

I didn't pair the female with anything else this year and she looks like she is building. If she should go then it will either be retained sperm from last year, or the little guy got it done and I just didn't see a lock. Keeping my fingers crossed.

It ain't just the kids! My 2010 female Pied het Hypo took 2 seasons in a row off (2014-2015 and 2015-2016), but shed did lay this season. And I only caught 2 locks. So, maybe your little guy got it done

My Vanilla girl is giving up her eggs today, day 33 BTW. So far there are 5 and a grape. I'm going to give her a little longer just to make certain she is done. The incubator has been fired up for a couple weeks now and waiting. Eggciting!

Congrats. I think it is getting to be that time. Lots of clutches starting to drop. I have three due at the beginning of next week.

She finished laying and there were 5 viable eggs with good veins and they weighed about 595 grams. There was also a loose follicle that looked about the size of a grape, and 1 follicle that was about the same size but connected to one of the eggs. It almost looked like the way a sausage link would be attached to the next link. Below are a couple pics.

In addition, the egg that it is connected to appears to have several windows (poor calcification) in it. The connection looks like it is about an 1/8 of an inch thick and I can't tell if it is actually sealed off from the egg or if fluid is able to move between the two masses, so I don't feel comfortable about disconnecting it from the egg. Has anyone experienced this before and what should I expect? Obviously the follicle like mass has no veins and I assume it will start to decay shortly. If in fact there is fluid that can move between the egg and the follicle then I expect when the follicle starts to decay it will contaminate the egg. If there isn't fluid moving between them and it starts to decay, can I leave it attached or will it cause the egg to decay regardless?

I don't have experience with this situation, but if you can't find information from someone who has had this happened to them, I would consider tying a string tightly around the connection. I know that this method can be used by dermatologists to remove skin tags. I bet if you contacted one of the big name breeders, they might be able to help you. Justin Kobylka and Garrick Demeyer are two names that come to mind quickly.

Thanks Chris. I started a separate thread on this because this thread wasn't getting much traffic. A few others chimed in and that was the same thing they said. It is a good idea. I did tie it off with floss and cut the small mass off. I don't know if the fluid was moving between them but the content in the small mass was opaque and thick, like the consistency of Vaseline. Kind of nasty. I hope I won't loose the egg but it isn't very well calcified and has a couple of windows in it as well. I'll post updates along the way.

Well, i hope it turns around to show that tying and cutting the attached follicle was the correct intervention. That is what i would've done. You know who is another good resource for this type of presentation is Brian Gundy of For Goodness Snakes. I have pm'd him on several occaisions with issues of incubation and he was very helpful and informed. He is a member on the forum.

Woke up yesterday to discover my ball python wrapped around 6 beautiful white eggs! I'm letting her do all the work keeping the internal cage at around 75 degrees Fahrenheit humidity seems to be an issue keeping it in the seventies eighties is hard due to lack of proper planning

Update!

Lost the one egg that had the follicle hanging off of it around week 5-6. It just molded up and I left it there to see, but when I touched it, it was just a hard mass inside like someone filled a hacky sack with concrete.

Day 62 today and 3 of the 4 remaining eggs have pipped. Two are playing it close to the vest but I am pretty confident they are a Vanilla and a Normal. The third is a Super Vanilla so I am happy about that. Still waiting on number four to make its grand debut. I would post pictures but since I used PB I'm not sure what to do now. I won't be signing up for an account. Hope everyone else is having a good season.
