On that subject, it's a good idea for any pet owner(especially with exotics) to have a contingency laid out to take care of their animals - relatively few deaths are neat and planned after all. I keep a record of all animals here along with some contact information for people I trust to do right by my critters. My supreme hope is that within a few short days of my demise, these animals will already be settled into their new homes with friends and family.

Aiming to hit 100...glad to hear it!!! I just turned 38 and have no desire to hit 100, I'm thinking I have another 40-50 years left in me and that will be enough for me. hahahaha, of course I may change my tune as I age. After all, I didn't think I'd live to see 30 with the life I was living and almost didn't. I was one of the lucky ones who was able to turn my life around and now choose to enjoy the precious gift of life. That being said, there must be some strong genes in my family, as my grandfather is soon to be 97 and he is rock solid!!! My father is in damn near perfect health and will be 62 in a few weeks. So, who knows? Maybe us Frechette boys live a long time?

Glad you were able to turn your life around! That's always good to hear.
Ask your grandfather if HE wants to turn 98. I think your answer at his age will be similar.

Reason: correct the autocorrect!
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

This is the oldest one I currently have, she is supposedly about 9 years old, an Arizona Mountain King snake. However, I believe she is much older than that, maybe somewhere in the 15-20 year range, near her maximum life span. Her health is declining, she seems to have arthritis in her back and often times will get all tangled up with herself and has a hard time untangling. Even if I straighten her out she seems to still have problems getting around and will bend up off of the floor at times. Increasing the heat and humidity seems to have helped a bit. She is also a very picky eater and will only eat live pinky mice fairly infrequently even though I offer them twice a week or so. I actually bought her to breed since I have two males but soon realized that she was past her prime. I've had her for just over a year. An old snake is a bummer, you can't breed them or sell them, just have to enjoy them for the last little while. She is sure a pretty thing!!

Thank you Reinz!! The hardest thing I have ever done, but by far, the best thing I have ever done.
I was talking to my grandfather a few months ago, the week the oldest living woman in the world passed away at 117, and was talking to him
about her. He said he had seen she passed. So I asked "What do you think, Pepere, you got another 20 years in you?" He said "$*@# no!!! I hope not anyway!! I've outlived my wife of 68 years and all my friends. I get bored now, what the heck is there to do at 117?!?!?" Hahahaha!!! The man has an amazing sense of humor and is undoubtedly my hero. I think he's still got a few years in him though, wouldn't be at all surprised to see him hit 100 and then some.
...Now for my shameless plug: A local (MA) author named Charley Valera recently wrote a book called "My Father's War" which was about some local men who had fought in WWII telling their stories of the war. My grandfather was interviewed several times and shared his story with the author. He ended up being in the book and has his own chapter. It was amazing to read, especially since he has talked about the war so little. He just started talking about it within the last 10 years, but still speaks of it very rarely. Anyway, because of this book, the family was able to learn some of his history that he had previously kept to himself. We knew he was a code-breaker for General Patton's "Ghost Corps", we knew he had seen a lot, including concentration camps, but didn't know much else. Turns out he was a huge part of the deception part of the war which included building "fake" armies, tanks, camps, etc...to deceive the Germans into thinking they knew where the Americans were. They even used recorded noise from other companies and played it over loudspeakers, were purposely allowing Germans to intercept false code, etc...and would then ambush the Germans when they attacked a fake American Army. He wasn't allowed to speak of this for 50 years after the war in case the tactic needed to be used again, as the Americans knew the Cold War would be inevitable. He was also part of the very first group to liberate the Buchenwald Concentration Camp, and actually stepped foot in Hitler's Crow's Nest hiding spot.
My grandfather is without a doubt, my hero.

She is a beauty for sure! It's sad to hear about her struggles though.

Emrys is the oldest snake I have, and the snakes I've had the longest, but I have no idea how old he is. I've had him for almost a year now, but the previous owner had no idea how old he is. He's over 2000 grams and almost 5 feet long though, so he's definitely an adult.

*edit: Forgot to put picture ^_^
