Best Thermostat for RHP??

The Jumpstart is ETL certified and significantly cheaper. For a single RHP, this might be a good route to go.

The Herpstat on the other hand is more expensive, but very well regarded and has a great deal of other features that may come in handy. They also come in multi-port units, which is extremely helpful for setups where multiple device monitoring is needed. I personally use these.

In short, if you believe you are only going to be using a single RHP, you might as well get the Jumpstart. If you play on using multiple panels in the future, I would go herpstat.

As noted in previous post, I use herpstats with RHPs in my personal snake setups. I know people who have used the Jumpstart thermostats with no issues, granted most were using them with UTHs.

The Jumpstarts are ETL certified, meaning they meet nationally accepted safety standards from a 3rd party NRTL. If they were garbage, they would likely not have this certification. As a comparison, many people here consider pro panels RHPs and ultratherm UTHs to be higher caliber than comparable products. Both of these (Pro Products and Ultratherm) are UL certified, a certification holding similar weight. Herpstats, for the record, are neither UL nor ETL certified. That said, clearly I use them and believe them to be an excellent product.

Perhaps I should amend my previous post to the following -

If you have the budget, I think herpstats are an excellent choice for a thermostat. They have a good track record and a variety of very handy features that are not available in cheaper products. However, I doubt you are risking your snakes health by using the jumpstart thermostat. It serves its singular purpose as a thermostat without the additional goodies the herpstat has. The jumpstart has a 4.5 of out 5 starts on Amazon with over 1100 reviews, many of which are reviews from reptile keepers.

I am sure there are "el cheapo" thermostats that are garbage available for purchase, but the jumpstarts appear to be an effective unit for the singular purpose of temperature regulation.

Yep, and 11% of the reviews are three stars or less. I bought one once after so many people recommended them. It failed in under two months. It failed in the on position and almost cooked my big Blood who was in a temporary cage after my ordered cages didn't arrive on time. Luckily I didn't truly trust that tstat and checked it often. This made me find the failure before any harm came of it, but it was way too warm when I found it. When mine failed I sent them an email and they didn't do anything.

You will not find any ratings even close to matching that with Herpstat and their customer service is top notch too.

Certified or not I will never take such a risk again. My collection is worth more than saving pennies and buying cheap gear. I will also not suggest anything I would not do or use.

I went ahead and got a herostat 2 when had same dilemma. Only have a single t8 on its way but for now can control each side individually and when expand I have options. More expensive up front, cheaper long run.
