Compound Bow- Diamond Infinite Edge by Bowtech.

Earlier this year I got my 1st Javalina w it.

Normally, I am a rifle hunter. But, since I took up archery, I have decided I prefer it. Lets face it.. Easy apples sitting on a hill waiting to shoot a deer or other critter at 300 plus yards... But bow hunting, makes ya have to earn that freezer filler... Gotta get alot closer... For me..at least 60yards w my bow.

Its called a javelina. They are not hogs or pigs.. They are peccary from south of the border. Some say they are a type of rodent actually.

But yes, we do eat them, they are very good. But, you have to know how to process thm properly.. They are not like hogs and pigs, these guys have a scent gland on their lower back that wreaks badly..if u puncture it in anyway while skinning or let its fur touch the meat, you ruin it. So very nit picky processing, but tastey beasts.

Oh and they are meaner than sin when they feel the need to be..can snap a leg bone in a bite if they get ahold of you.. Their eye sight is horrible.. I have been as close as 15 foot to them while hunting, out in open where any other critter will see you, but as long as you dont move, they dont seem to notice you. And they do have a good sense of smell too.

Javelina are nicknamed "stink pigs" for a good reason.. However, their bodies dnt wreak.. Its just if you mess w that scent gland they have.. Thn the stink is present.

If you look at 1st pic I provided..thr is a lump/hump just above their tail area... Thats the scent gland..its rather large.

They definately could be if provoked. Usually though, they prefer to run like crazy critters given the chance.

These guys are super fun to hunt too. I like getting as close as possible being that I prefer to hunt w a bow and arrow, I have really improved my stalking skills to get me closer to make those shots. Its an adrenaline rush... That ends w meat in the freezer and a nice full belly later.
