Thanks. I don't know enough to make an informed decision. I've always heard good things about Pro-Products, they are always more expensive, from misting to RHPs. I never was able to figure out if it was due to actual quality or an organization trying to make more money for the same quality etc.

Someone recommended Reptile Basics' product as well. Decisions decisions.

How do you mount yours inside the snake's cage to minimize the potential of your snake climbing onto it etc? I realize RHPs aren't hot like light bulbs.

Reptile basics is just as good as pro products do to the proof of everyone's success with them. I have nothing against pro products except for the fact that they try to make other companies products sound like junk. RBI using UL listed heating element now as well but pro products rhp is completely UL listed but don't let that alone make you decide. Its just a selling point to make them charge more. Your covered either way no matter what brand you get.

You simply mount it to the ceiling with the 2 screw provided. They do get hot I will admit but you can hold your hand on it for a good 20 seconds, your snake will not be sitting up there long enough if at all to get burnt.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize there was a difference in the UL component ratings. Hmm.. I get the impression from RBasics' website that their first trial at producing RHPs was not good due to some type of out gassing I take it.

Well snakes don't sense pain as we do, they are much slower in determining thermal pain at least as you may know. My concern is perhaps my snake may decide to wrap his body around it. I know that sounds crazy, but I put very little past a determined animal at times hah.

Actually a lot of rhps had to be out gassed before use but now I know reptile basics you don't need to anymore, I have reptile basics and installed one with my bp in the cage and turned it on and all is well! Idk if pro products needs to be out gassed or not.

As for your snake wrapping around it there is no way, they are so thin that it really couldn't get a good grip. The RBI ones ate 1.75 inches thick I believe and pro products in 1 inch I think. Its something you don't need to worry about. But I get where your coming from but after you see how thin they are you will understand. They also mount flush to the top of cage so there's no way for your snake to crawl into it.

No matter which rhp you get you will be happy, they both work just as well as the other. These 2 brands are different than the ones that hang from ceilings, boaphile has some that hangs but I wouldn't get those. I could send you a pic if you want to see how they mount. You won't be sorry about the acurites, I can't believe that they are so affordable for how accurate they are.
