I have a greek mythology theme for Hognose, an egyptian theme for honduran milksnakes and for Ball Python it's pretty much anything goes.

True, but we humans like to give things names. We have at least five bicycles in our house with names: Daisey, Molly, Wendy, Archie (short for Archaeopteryx), and Reflecty. A ball python won't come when you call it, but it might come for its own reasons. A bicycle won't even do that!
Years ago my dad named his bike Rosinante, after Don Quixote's steed.
Our new guy is named Hoosac, after a railroad tunnel that my partner is really fascinated with (Our landlady's comment was that there is something topologically mind-bending about naming a snake after a tunnel). My old corn snake was named Eclipse, and the BP I had before him was named Oswaft after some creatures in a fairly obscure Star Wars spin-off novel that I was into in middle school (the Lando Calrissian Adventures).
I feel like I've seen a whole bunch of references on this forum to snakes named after sweets or desserts of various kinds...

My baby girl is named Valentine for two reasons. 1) She has a heart marking on her tail. 2) She was a gift from my Sweetheart and it was close to Valentines day. She really suits the name and I find people are less afraid of her when I tell them her name.

Heh, I don't have enough exes to name my bikes after, LOL. Only two of my bikes have names; my better half names most of his, but not all of his have names either. The only one of my bikes I tend to anthropomorphize is the one I use for long distance events... so maybe anthropomorphizing a bicycle is somewhat related to the fact that you get a little nutty after you've been on one for two or three days with barely any sleep.
I do sort of wonder if the snakes named after desserts are partly because it makes them sound less scary.
"Meet my snake, his name is Spike"
"Aaaahhhh! A snake!!"
versus
"This is my snake, her name is Cupcake"
"Awww, she looks so sweet"

I'm spilt down the middle between nerdy references and food (mostly deserts). Current snakes are Strudel, Serket, and Eclair (paid for, not yet home). Some future planned snakes: Arcade (super pastel mojave), Mal (firefly pied) Chiffon (enchi sugar) Davesprite (dreamscicle). For the future banana het pied boy I haven't decided yet on Pudding, Split, or Wafer, but the eventual banana cinnamon enchi pied baby I plan on getting from him will be Foster.

I know this is an old thread but I really enjoyed reading everyone's reasons so I thought I would share mine. I would like to read more as well.
My super pastel name is Kratos and not after the video game. I was handling him and after feeling his grip for the first time I thought what better name then the god of strength himself.
My killer bee name is Persephone. In Greek mythology Persephone is goddess of the underworld and she is bound to Hades for 1/3 of the year which is winter. She comes back from the underworld and spring starts and stays until she has to go back down and then winter starts. So she has about 1/3 black and 2/3 yellow so what better then black reminding you of the underworld and yellow to remind you of spring and summer.
