    Question on T8 with UTH...

    Quick question on animal plastics...

Is the T8 With Sliding Glass Doors lying flat on a surface able to be used with an ultratherm UTH? I'm considering buying one long UTH to use for two T8 enclosures, so that they're sharing it... both sitting on half of the UTH.

And do AP enclosures need to be combined with a heat lamp (like glass tanks), or are they fine with just UTH?

I'm basically worried about the thickness of the bottom of the T8 and how well it insulates heat from a UTH... it looks so thick to me in photos.

I never had any problems with the UTH heating through the bottom of my T8s when I had them - I used Flexwatt and THG though, not Ultratherm.

For ambient temps, I was just fine without anything extra, but I had good control over the temperature of the room they were in. Others have found that they needed to add supplemental heating, like RHPs, to raise the ambient temps a few degrees. Like many things, the answer is "it depends".

Is Flexwatt or THG stronger than ultratherm? Would it even make a difference, since they're all set at 92 or so on thermostats? :s

I'm looking to set up something long term that can maintain their hot spot and overall temps through the seasons, because I'm unable to just control room temp for them. Would I need to combine an ultratherm UTH with a ceramic heat emitter inside the T8? (Is that how that works? How does it work? LOL)

I'll look into RHP's too! But I'm not handy at all and have no idea how drilling even works.

ETA: I'm ordering ultratherms or some heating source for the snakes right now on reptilebasics. I'm trying to plan this all out and get everything I need at once, at least for awhile

    Heat tape gets very hot.
My UTH pads don't. I'm not sure they would effectively heat through anything but glass or thin plastic.

I've had good luck on e-mail questions with RB.
Given the details, they should be able to clarify what you need.

I'd get the THG heat tape instead. It's cheaper and will work just as well with a good thermostat.

In regards to additional heating, it all depends on the room where your T8 is. I'd recommend Radiant Heat Panels (RHPs are available from Reptile Basics).

You dont need to be handy. Just need to create a U shape hole to feed the cable through.

Would they not be the same in the end, since they're set on thermostats to keep the same temps?

Is there a guide on setting up RHP's? I see them on reptile basics, but unsure how they work or are set up. I see that they're usually drilled/locked in place on the ceilings inside T8's. Would it be possible to use RHP's with plastic tub setups for now? Would putting the RHP's on the floor of the enclosure be harmful? (I'm guessing it is harmful)

I'll look into heat tape, but also not a single clue how to set up heat tape either haha. x_x Is there a guide on that?

If you have any additional questions after you go through the thread, I'm more than welcome to help. I have 3 Animal Plastics terrariums.

HLH Reptiles has a good Youtube on heat tape.
However, not necessarily for the person who isn't "handy."
    YMMV.

As for the temp difference, I think the pads I have are just designed differently. They are from RB.

I was actually just reading through that thread! Still confused on how RHP's are set up, since that wasn't clarified... LOL.

And copying what I wrote before: Would it be possible to use RHP's with plastic tub setups for now? Would putting the RHP's on the floor of the enclosure be harmful? (I'm guessing it is harmful)

Thanks! And hahah yep, I'm not handy at all. How does the world even work. What are drills and hammers.
Which is why I keep looking back to heat tape and ceramic heat emitter lamps, because at least I understand how they're set up. Plug and go.

I see that the flexwatt in the T8 setup guide are set in the low 100's now... So are ultratherms incapable of getting up to those temps, basically?
