Giving them free ammunition?? Are you kidding me? Peoples beloved dogs and cats being murdered is not "free ammunition." This is a horrific, heinous cruel act of savagery that absolutely needed to be reported to ANY law enforcement agency that could have found and prosecuted this man. Pure and utter evil. I think that you all don't understand the seriousness of this crime. This is a serious crime that can and should bring jail time.

I agree with you Josh, it is Cruel and DOES deserve jail time. I love would love to find this guy alone in a room.
    However, getting PETA involved?
That is ONE camel's nose that you don't want in your tent!

You think the Lacey Act is bad. Before you know it we won't have the right to ANY constrictors anymore when they get through.

Pick your battles wisely. This is one hill that you don't want to die on.
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

I too agree that it should bring jail time, but as you said LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY, HSUS and PETA are not law enforcement agencies the are boarderline radical groups pushing an agenda, they don't care about bringing one person to justice they care more about pushing animal bans across the board.

This. HSUS and PETA are no more "law-enforcement" than the NRA is.

IP addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers on caller ID, etc. are all easily spoofed.

lmao she ran a blog where in she posted pics of herself laying around naked with her snake wrapped around her and talking about mysticism and sexual awakening wrt to owning the critter. Seriously fetishized big snake keeping, it was weird. But hey, if you want to be alone in a room with that, I ain't gonna stop you. Different strokes

And yeah public doesn't exactly have access to contact with the website's IT department. Tumblr isn't a small, private forum, it's a huge platform for millions of individuals to run unmoderated blogs. No one on the website actively reviews content for legality. Even TOS violations have to be reported and go through the system first. Much of their services are automated. This all happened within a span of a couple hours in one day, where as contacting a live person on the staff, getting the issue seen to, and then finally had something done about it would have likely taken a week for each step.

Believe me, if there was more that could have been done at the time, there are at least five of us in my personal circle that would have done it, not to mention all the other people that became aware of the situation. In this day and age protection of the person using the site and their privacy is the top concern of most websites. This comes with both benefits and draw backs. I can be assured as a user that some weirdo isn't going to make up stories to get my home address and come stalk me, but that also means we can't get that info on someone doing legit bad things. If they get caught in their home town, then the local authorities will deal with it as that state and city's laws provide.

Thats what I was saying. Josh had made the law enforcement comment, I was stating they were more along the lines of a "radical/political" type group pushing an agenda.

Yeah you guys are right. I forget that PETA is nuts and wouldn't do anything productive.

Not only is PETA not a law enforcement agency, the organization spreads some pretty serious misinformation about exotics... Not just the fear-mongering kind (which it does) but general care info as well. The official site has 'care pages' detailing how to properly care for companion animals, and let's just say the page for reptile care is sorely lacking. Here's the link just for giggles: http://www.peta.org/living/companion...ring-reptiles/

(I'm vegan, and as much as I dislike PETA, they have about the biggest repertoire of vegan recipes around, so I've spent quite a bit of time clicking around their site. I also think it's good to have a good idea of what people who so violently oppose pet ownership are actually saying and how they try to justify their points)

Unless a situation is so bad that every animal involved would be better off dead, you don't even want to THINK of getting PETA involved. Their field teams are generally made up of individuals with little to no official training (such as an animal control officer might have), no knowledge of what is and is not legal to do for an animal without the owner's permission, and an intense devotion to the idea that animals should not be kept as pets period. The end result of getting them involved would have probably been a dead burm and a psychopath who still felt justified in trapping and killing their neighbors' pets.

It's not that we don't understand the seriousness of the crimes, it's that no one involved had the resources or knowhow to get this person's location, and if they did, local law enforcement should have been contacted, not some organization that thinks having pets is equivalent to owning slaves. I don't think you have a grasp of how toxic these organizations are and how little they really do to advance animal welfare.
