I would recommend researching bp husbandry either on this sight, buy a book or Google it. Do the same for genetics so you have at least a basic understanding of dominant, co dominant and recessive genes. If for any reason other than making sure the babies you create have value and you can find them homes.
Beyond that, take everything you get from forums with a grain of salt. There are many people in different places with different views and they all seem to come out on forums.
