Yeah, you aren't getting what im saying. You aren't doing your male bp a "favor" by letting him breed a female. And yes you do need to have a basic understanding of genetics before you start breeding these animals. Don't be the uninformed idiot who does this off of a whim.

Why do I need to know about any genetics other than what I was just told? These are the only snakes I'm going to be dealing with

By the way I have an experienced breeder who will incubate the eggs for me

There are some genetic morphs that can create issues health wise if mixed. I know the spiderx spider cross has been discussed but not confirmed? There are a couple others but I can't recall them off the top of my head.
How about rather than just tell this guy to "educate" himself, some on offer up the necessary info or provide a link to it? No need to over complicate this. Forums are meant for helping others imo, let's try to do that.

I am MORE than happy to educate someone who sincerely wants to learn about ball python genetics, mendelian inheritance and how to breed snakes. You can see my previous posts where I almost gave a full college course in particulate inheritance and morphs. But when I see someone who off the cuff wants to breed without taking the time to do their OWN research, especially after insulting me, not happening. Get on google and figure it out.

Because you should have a solid understanding of how basic genetics work before you jump in head first and get over your head. Remember as a breeder, you are essentially playing God and are creating life. There are a lot of genes that react favorably with each other and some that don't so taking the time to educate yourself on the various genes and how to properly incubate and what happens if there are hiccups along the way are fundamental in this hobby.
You need to be responsible with these animals just as if you were to bring a child into the world.

I realize this. Why do u guys assume that I'm not going to do any research or that I don't know the consequences? I asked a simple question. If I want to know the consequences and hardships of breeding them I'll start a new thread on it

Thank you! This is what I was saying. Getting your male laid is a bad excuse to start breeding. If you understand nothing else, figure out how recessive genes work.

Here is the link to the genetic calculator. I am pretty sure it tells you which genes present potential issues as well. http://www.bhbreptiles.com/main.aspx?Page=MorphWizard
I would recommend researching bp husbandry either on this sight, buy a book or Google it. Do the same for genetics so you have at least a basic understanding of dominant, co dominant and recessive genes. If for any reason other than making sure the babies you create have value and you can find them homes.
Beyond that, take everything you get from forums with a grain of salt. There are many people in different places with different views and they all seem to come out on forums. Some interactions are pleasant and helpful some not so much. Most often due to miscommunication. Have a great day and enjoy your journey.
