That is strange, it could be a matter of perception. If you have a large amount of adults and clutches, it could be seen as a successful occupation, or a secondary income. With one or two someone who doesn't like reptiles may think "why? There's no reason to have a snake for a pet.." a couple have told me they just didn't see a point to it because they couldn't show affection like a dog or cat, so they can't make a good pet. (their words not mine, and obviously this opinion is shared by reptile haters of both genders) but it's kind of hard to look at something that potentially brings in money as "pointless".
