butter daddy x butter ---> producing more BDs & BELs
Niiiice O.O What is a 'daddy' btw? I've heard it before, but couldn't figure out what it was? And those nuclears are awesome, aren't they? I prefer the nuke spinner and spider over the bee, although they all have their charm. The Nuclear pin isn't all that bad either, nice with a little bit more solid pattern too it. I love all creme and warm beige/brown colorations, they are so neat

Agree, I like the yellow contrasts in the butter morphs. Butter Daddy is a variation by Ralph Davis which features the "platy gene"' which acts as recessive but has like a ghost-like effect. Ralph coined the term Butter Daddy as he crossed the gene into his butter line. Pics never do these guys justice as their colors are awesome. I've hatched several clutches in the past. Cheers.

"Daddy" is ralph davis' term for a hidden gene that is compound heterozygous to everything in the blue eyed lucy complex. Its kinda hard to discribe the appearance, the snake basically turns out like a tricked out version of the BEL gene its crossed with. Very simlilar, but way better. When a BEL gene isnt present the snake appears completely normal, but its actually carrying the "daddy" gene (often called a "het daddy" )

The snake that founded lesser platinum lines was a "daddy". Thats why ralph called them "lessers", because that snake's original offspring were still really nice, but didnt turn out quite as cool as the founder. It wasnt until he crossed the normal looking offspring from those pairings to the lessers that he reproduced the appearance.

Does anyone know if the homozygous form of the daddy gene shows up visually? Its something ive always wondered but never seen or heard any info on.

    Your butters are amazing!

thanks, you explained it very well !!! Not sure about the homozygous form, even though I've produced 2 previous BD clutches, I'm still learning. Ralph tends to keep everything a mystery on purpose, so you have to explore some of this out on your own. Next year I'm going to cross some butter morphs (butterpin, butterbee, etc) with my BD's and see if I produce anything unique. I did cross my BD female with a Butterbee male last year and produced 2 BDs and 3 BELs. I need to put a blacklight on the BELs to see if they might be carrying the spider gene. On my list of to-do's ... also thanks for the comments on the butters, just good fun and a break from the stressful day-job ... cheers!

ive seen some pictures of super daddys, the homozygous form, it was linked from this forum somewhere, but google refuses to be helpful.

it had a slight overall reduction in color, a bit like a hypo.

of all the genes in the BEL gene complex, the daddy gene is by far the weakest. but that makes it useful to tweak and improve lesser/butter, possibly also mojave or bamboo. combined with a strong BEL complex gene it lightens up the colors, without resulting in a white patternless BEL.

so yes, a butter/lesser daddy pinstripe would be quite interesting, i think it would look really pretty.
