you haven't hit a cigarette in four years and you still get cravings? if that's not discouraging i don't know what is. lol when i quit for 7 months i had got to the point where i didn't even think about them at all, even when i was out drinking. finishing up day 8 without any now. been chewing gum nonstop, and the cravings are mostly gone.. the only time i get bad ones now is after a big meal.

Re: The quit smoking thread!
I quit cold turkey cause I'm good like that and a few times...I will only smoke if I'm drunk. I rarely drink any more,so I just about never smoke.
cigarettes are like $11.00 in NY..I hate NY ,such a rip off.

I quit for the final time probably 4 years ago now. I had smoked for about 20 years. 2...sometimes 3 packs a day.
I had to quit a couple of times.
Last time stuck.
There's two parts to quitting...breaking the nicotine addiction itself and breaking the habit. Everytime I got in the car I lit up. Everytime I got up in the morning, I lit up. Got home, lit up. 10AM, outside to light up. Finish eating...light a cig. etc etc.

First I had to break the habits. Those lozenges are what I used. A couple of days of those and i was craving those more than the cigarettes. It helped to break the habit. I didn't get in the car and reach for a cig. I didn't wake up and reach for my cigs.
I used the lozenges for a while...maybe 5 months. The smoking habits were gone, I just needed to break the physical addiction. That took one weekend. I didn't buy any lozenges, stayed in my apartment, watched TV and played games all weekend. That was probably 4 years ago now.
No cigarettes or nicotine of any kind since then. No cravings, no nothing. I can smell smoke on people now. No desire to go back to smoking.

Re: The quit smoking thread!
I've paused a few times. Can't really say that I've quit because I haven't. But I've made it from a few days to about four months at the longest (since this thread, I quit for my entire pregnancy and for a couple of months after).
Chantix has been the most effective helper that I've tried, but it makes me feel so bad that I have a hard time sticking with it.

I respectfully disagree that it's that easy. I certainly know my share of people who've quit cold turkey and I respect that kind of will power. But it's rarely as simple as just taking a smoking cessation aid or telling yourself that you aren't going to smoke anymore.

I'll quit at some point. (Hadn't posted on here previously, but I'll state my intent now.) I'm well aware that I use it as a crutch for my anxiety, and between an addiction to nicotine and an addiction to my narcotic for emergency panic relief, well.... I'll gladly take the nicotine.
