I think in order to have as many snakes as most of us do you have to love them and think they are fun. You aren't going to get anywhere in this hobby if you don't think that having balls is fun and enjoyable. Sure there may be times when it sux and snakes aren't eating and your behind on cleaning but when those tiny little heads poke out of the eggs, somehow everything is ok again!

Now if your asking if anyone has then for pets and not for breeding at all, there has to be a few poking around here. But in any case you must love your pets and think they are enjoyable. If you don't, you need to do some serious thinking about why you have them in the first place.

Welcome to the addiction. I hope yor stay will be enjoyable.

I only have one ATM but plan on getting more. Maybe I'll breed someday but that won't be for a few years.

    This!

It's so fun when my wife calls out from the dining room " honey, quit playing with your balls and come eat!"

I have 8 ball pythons and 2 rosy boas, just for fun. Some day in the future I might try my hand at breeding, but right now all of my snakes are too young and too small to even consider breeding them. IF I did get into breeding, it wouldn't be for profit either, it would be for love of the snakes. With the morphs I have (simple one and two gene morphs), it would take quite some time for me to be able to breed a snake that would sell for any kind of profit after you take into account the costs of housing and feeding these animals.
Why keep a snake? Why keep any animal? Because you enjoy the animal, find something beautiful and fascinating about it, and it fits seamlessly into your lifestyle.

When customers at my PETsMART ask how many snakes I have I tell them, "two, going on thirty." My wish list is that long. I want to be a hobbyist breeder. Not for the money for the fun, excitement, and anticipation. My first pairing is still 18 months away, and I've never been so excited.

All my snakes are collected for fun and considered family members, some I have no breeding plans for. Out of my 20 pythons (two being paid off, one needing to arrive), 6 boas, 1 pit, and 7 colubrids I only plan on breeding the balls, Angolans, Cali Kings, and Argentines for fun.
