I'm the complete opposite. All that "you look so beautiful blah blah blah" crap actually makes me like the guy less I figure if a guy is trying to start a conversation on what I look like, he doesn't have much to say because that is a pretty boring one-sided topic. Of course there are exceptions, but it's a trend I've noticed in the people that say those things.

I'm not saying a guy has to lay it on thick, because that does get annoying after a while. I just feel that if you're gonna try and compliment a girl (or guy) you should put more effort in than just "I think you're hot". I told the guy who said he liked "white girls" that that's not really a compliment, since I was BORN white. No effort put in there, and there's TONS of white girls so you could say that to literally ANYONE who was Caucasian and female. Not very complimentary if you ask me. xD
