Sometimes people do need to get rid of animals asap, or they really need money. Just last month I got an adult male pied, juvie male bumblebee and a small wild caught female for $450. Then went back to the guy a week later and got his sub adult female pied for $425. He really needed money because he was floating in past due bills.

    Sometimes good deals come along.

Previously, you said you were in your 3rd year of law enforcement school, which implied a criminal justice degree. Which is it? Are you a 3L in Law School or in your third year of criminal justice? Those are two very different things.

Sorry, to hijack the thread. Just curious.

I too also agree on getting the word out about this, either an ad posted on craiglist and/or fauna. If I had any feeling/indication of snakes being stolen, that is what I would do, regardless if I'm out $25, $250 or $2,500. It's all about morals and ethics.

How can they be charged without proof nor animal ID. Good luck trying to describe the balls that look like everyone else's !

I was wondering the exact same thing, Don.

I'd venture to guess that it's not the 3L in Law School based on the lack of grammatical skill or writing prowess...Those guys have to be FANTASTIC writers. Just sayin'.

report it? you people are nuts!
Trust me when it comes to the law ignorance is really bliss!!!!
the second those things are reported missing hes gonna have to cough them up no refund!!

option #2 dont report them and if by some act of god they figure out he has them .... this is where ignorance is bliss ... he didnt know so he cant be charged and the same again he would have to give them up no refund... BUT the chances of them figure out he has them slim to none... you honestly think cops are going to investigate a stolen pet? HAHA they will investigate the B&E but there not gonna investigate where the pet ended up. trust me they got better stuff to do

i have been in law school for 3 years now and most of my professors are lawyers that get off to loop wholes and ways around getting in trouble.

This is why you'll make a great lawyer one day They aren't well known for doing the right thing. Or caring about people. As long as they profit somehow.

I'll be sure to remember this if anything happens to go missing in your collection. We won't sympathize with you at all. We'll just pat the guy on the back that stole them from you and tell him: "Good job, man! You're getting a heck of a deal! What, that guy? He just paid for them. What a sucker."

Also: I know several people that are, in fact, in Law School. From the sounds of it, you have no idea how to approach a 'case'. Reporting suspicious activities to the police is not asking them to come and take the animals away. It is making them aware of the situation in case the rightful owner files a claim with the police. Then the owner and the person who bought them can be put into communication, the owner can get their animals back, and the man who stole them (if the contact information remains valid) can be charged.

How is that not a winning situation? Because the guy doesn't get a sweet deal out of someone else's loss?

I understand that everyone here is passionate about snakes but i feel like some people are jumpin the gun here. How is this any different from people finding morphs that were dropped off in animal shelters or at petco? It could very well be that maybe the lanlord found out about the snakes and didnt allow them in the first place, causing them to have to dump the snakes. I just cant see someone having the time to steal the snakes and the rack and t-stat. I think theres more to the story but i dont think its bad as everyone here is assuming. Call me optimistic maybe....

I think people are jumping the gun on the fact that one member seems to think it's fine to make out with a "sweet deal" at someone else's loss.
People who steal a snake are looking to make a quick buck, animal shelters aren't that option. Petco isn't that option either really as they don't even pay a small portion of the animal's worth. (and some pet places like to keep records of where they got the snakes, a thief wouldn't want those records)

Now, you may be right on the story itself, being they truly did have to dump them quick for non-illegal reasons. But I don't think that is really being discussed at this point. More to the tune of if that was the case, would you report it or just consider yourself lucky to get a sweet deal.

Honestly it could be any of the above possibilities. I would keep an eye out on CL and local shops for a lost / stolen ad, and keep my ears open just in case though.

If that were the case, why approach a pet store worker and solicit their business instead of posting about it on Craigslist? It's the lack of a trail as much as it is the price that makes it seem sketchy. He could have easily moved those animals in the space of a week at a higher price via Craigslist or some similar listing, yet he chose in person and tried to pawn them off as quickly as possible? Also, if they belonged to the guy, he would have been savvy as to their relative worth and would have likely wanted to make more money off of them. As much as we would like to believe it was just a sweet deal, the likelihood given the situation seems low.

I know if it happened to me though that I would want someone to report it so that I might get the chance to have my animals returned to me. The legality is not so much in question at this point as the ethics are. As mentioned previously, I'd be looking around for lost/stolen ads just to be sure. If someone is missing their animals, they would probably exhaust every possible route in their search for them.
