any mice breeders here that can help?

i went to feed my mice and i noticed alot of blood in a tub, so i take a look and my female mice that had babies yesterday was dead with what i tought was another baby that hadn't been born yet sticking out. i put try to pull it out only to find out it was part of the anus that was sticking out. have any mice breeders experience this?

I have zero experience breeding mice but my guess is the baby came out the wrong way and she died in labor. I know in humans its bad-news-bears if the baby tries to come out butt first. Like i said im guessing thats what happened but idk. Maybe its normal for mice to come out that way. Someone with more experience should be able to help!

yeah it's weird she was fine this morning now im stuck with 13 babies that hopefully my other female mice will foster.

I've had a few mice go this way on me...if I remember correctly, it was older breeder females that I was to retire soon. No idea the cause of it.

Sounds like your mama mouse had a prolapse.
Perhaps she pushed too hard and the prolapse occurred?

I don't breed mice. Just rats, but my friend breeds mice. We never have experienced something like this before.
All of our mamas have been really successful in their births.

it was her second litter. but i doubt it was from birth since the problem was on the anal side

EDIT: it looked like a prolapse ( maybe i shouldn't of googled that lol)

X2 on the prolapse. It can happen to any animal during labor. If they are having a hard time pushing a baby out, they end up pushing too hard for too long and it happens. Something like that would require a vet visit to fix. I'm sorry your little momma mouse didn't make it. Good luck fostering! Hopefully some of your other momma mice are willing to help out.

i already have them with the mouse that will foster them i will be checking to see how she is doing.

I had that happen with my oldest breeder. It was her last litter before I was gonna retire her. She pushed out 18 and I didn't see it until 2 days later whe she was leaving pups all around the tub. I picked her up and found it. Her entire rear was a hole. I tried to pull it out because I thought it might have been a pup that got stuck. Part of it pulled off. I couldn't stand to look at her like that, so I put her down immediatly after that. The pups were all being nursed. She really was a super mom. Ended up only nursing three off on to another mom.

the foster mom seems to be doing good with them.
