I did read Harry Potter--it petered out to a pathetic, half-hearted ending. I TRIED to read Tolkien. I read The Hobbit. I started on the trilogy, and put it down about halfway through.

I just couldn't get past the 'son of such and such, sired by whosit, descended from whatshisname', style. It was like reading Beowulf--which was fine, but only in a small dose. I've always had issues with 'high fantasy' anyhow, though. I can't do Asimov, either--'hard SF', lol. I don't mind flowery, long-winded writing (Lovecraft, etc), but something about that particular style just didn't do it for me.

More Jim Butcher, less Robert Jordan, lol.
