John Dies at the End by David Wong (A writer at Cracked.com if anyone goes there) the sequel is out later this year. One of the best books I've read. It's dark humor fiction, here is a quote about the dog in the book,
“And watch out for Molly. See if she does anything unusual. There’s something I don’t trust about the way she exploded and then came back from the dead like that.”
P.S. They already made it into a movie, it was at Sundance, hasn't been released yet.
