Tub Sizes?

To be perfectly honest i use 41qts for my snakes, no matter their size, and they do fine. I just built a rack and designed it for 41qts. It will hold 7 tubs. Its the perfect size for my room and will fit anysize bp basically. My juvenile cinny is only 300grams but he does fine in it. I have 3 hides in it and crumbled up newspaper and hes never missed a meal.
With that said once i have my own place and have more room (and more snakes lol) ill definetly have seperate appropriately sized racks for males and females. But for the time being i know i wont get more than 7 so it works perfectly for me.

haha same here about the number of snakes. My dad helped me talk my mom into letting me get my first ball python, and after a little over 3 years, i finally got my first! i bought my first, adopted my second, bought my third, and my fourth was not planned but i still brought one home from the reptile show She is getting used to the fact that i am going to breed a couple of them when my females grow up, but i'm not sure how many more she will put up with. haha!

I keep mine in a 2 foot by 2 foot cage from day one. as long as you give them good hides it shouldn't be an issue, but if you ever get one that won't eat, a smaller temporary cage/tub is a good idea to have on hand.

Exactly. My little brother (lives at my dads house) got a bp and i kept it at my house for the first month to get her going since she was only 99grams. I had her in just an extra 28qt tub to begin with. No matter what she wouldnt eat in that so i put her in a 6qt. She ate the next day. By the time i gave her to my lil bro, after about a month, she was in a 12qt tub with no extra crumpled up newspaper and was eating rats no problem.
Some snakes are just more tempermental and need more time to adjust. On the complete opposite side i brought my cinny male home at around 150gms and had him in a 41qt and hes been doing perfectly fine since day one...

i find it ironic how people that dont have snakes always think that just because they are snakes, they all think alike, but snakes really do have their own personalities like dogs and cats. snakes just dont tend to curl up with you on the couch and answer to their names

Ive taught mine tricks. They come whenever i wiggle a rat at the end Of their tub. Then when i say ATTACK they get the rat. Kinda like a pokemon...

lol that's hilarious i need to teach that trick to my newest ball python. i wiggle the dead rat in front of her but she wont buy it for one second...she never refuses a live baby rat though!

Quick question...the Ball Python caresheet says for BPs up to 2', a 10gallon tank would be fine and that for adults, a bigger one is better...41qt is a bit over 10 gallons; is that big enough for adult BPs?
is the caresheet giving a bit bigger size than necessary?
also, if i were to use a plastic tub, what's the best way to make sure there is air circulation but the snake can't escape?
would cutting a large hole in the lid and taping a mesh screen to it work?

While the volume may be close, the amount of floor space is greatly different. Height isn't important with BP's it's all about floor space. I keep mine in 4x2 foot cages



I use a divider when they are small to put 2 BP's in 1 cage, them let 1 BP have the full thing when they are adults.

They are stackable as well

if you were to use a plastic tub, i would drill small holes in the sides. but be sure to not make a single one big enough for the snake to even get its nose through because thats all it needs to either get out or get stuck. my only concern with taping mesh screen would be that if there are any sharp edges, it could possibly scar your snake.

Best way to put holes in plastic tubs is with a sodering gun. It makes perfect size holes without cracking the plastic like a drill will. I use 2 tubs for balls. I use v18 tubs for hatchlings until they get about 500 grams. Then they move from those tubs to the freedom breeders i cb70 tubs. The cb70 allows me plenty of room for big bowls and hides. As long as your twmps and humidity can be controlled you can go as big as ya want with tubs
