You want to be careful with stuff like that in case some yahoo decides to rid you of your snake "problem". I don't see a problem with bringing one with you, as long as it's a short trip, so the snake doesn't get too cold or stressed out. But there are people who won't like you and your snake, so you have to keep it in mind.
Some YAHOO tries to rid me of my snake problem and he wont have any more problems to worry about!!

I personally dont care what people think. I go to pet stores with a Ball around my neck and a 90 lb blue pit on a leash. lol People dont realize though my 2 lb chihauah (spelling) runs the house not the pit! lol

I can do all sorts of things. Doesn't make doing them a good idea.

There are people in this country who do not believe that we should have exotic pets. They fear them. They don't understand them. Taking snakes out and startling people who do not understand snakes and who fear them is not going to educate them. It's going to scare and disgust them.

Why I mention this is because our ability to keep our exotics is not going to be determined by whether we feel we should be allowed to keep them or not. It's going to be determined mostly by folks who don't have exotics, don't want them, and can't see why any reasonable person would want such a thing.

So it's a good idea to consider the impression our behaviors have on the people who will determine whether we keep our pets or not. If I decide to drape Minnie the Mean Snake and Darth Jackass around my neck and stroll through the park neither one is going to bite a single soul. But you better believe that when an issue comes onto the ballot concerning exotic pets, all the people who were startled by me taking those snakes out or scared or disgusted by them are going to be thinking of how inconsiderate and irresponsible reptile owners can be as they decide how they are going to vote.

I definitely feel your pain. With pink hair, skeleton tattoos, and more than a few 13's, a septum ring and a fair amount of snakes; Most people won't give me the time of day. I recently flew back from Phoenix, and the woman next to me was reciting prayer the whole flight, while terriflyingly staring at me the whole way.

Yup. And if they can't recall that there is a thing called a Food Chain, then they obviously don't deserve to have one. I have a pet mouse, she was supposed to be a feeder, but, well, crap happens and she's adorable.

My hair is extremely long and screaming red with black streaks.
[some folks actually ask if it's "natural"]....LOL

For whatever reason, little kids and old men seem to really dig it.
[there's a psychological object lesson there but I don't care to examine it too closely]

I have a ginormous European Dobermann, all these freaking snakes, ride my own Harley and am generally "socially unacceptable" yet ironically, the people who bother to look beyond all of that tend to become almost "groupies".

Do I take the Dobe to pet stores?
    Sometimes.
He's well trained but is extremely defensive of me so 'big crowd situations' are out.
[he can't watch everyone all the time and tends to overcompensate]

Would I show up in a pet store with him and a 6 foot Boa around my neck?

    No.

I would consider that an intent to intimidate which does not benefit the already undeserved reputation of either animal.

They should be good ambassadors for their breeds; not tools used to make me look like some kind of a "bad @ss".

    I'd talk to you....

Yup. And if they can't recall that there is a thing called a Food Chain, then they obviously don't deserve to have one. I have a pet mouse, she was supposed to be a feeder, but, well, crap happens and she's adorable.
    Yeah.

I got me some of them....LOL

What surprises me, as a new owner of a BP, is that I get more "looks" and comments from owning my snake then I do from owning my pit. I thought owning a pit took the cake for looks and comments, but boy was I wrong.

Of course, my pit is a big puppy-faced baby, so that helps.

Just to play devils advocate for a second why do we as reptile lovers have to feel so bad about bringing our pets with us out in public especially where other animals are allowed. I understand people are trying to get rid of our hobby and make it illegal but the same can be said of pitbulls, rotties and any other dog perceived by most to be "dangerous". Knowledge is power and for every bad look you get one person may say "hey look its not killing him I thought they would strangle you if given the chance".
