It's because pit bulls and rotties and other "dangerous dogs" are, at least, DOGS. Which most everyone likes or is at least familiar with.

Snakes are more of an unknown. Snakes are "dirty". Snakes are reptiles; they aren't as easy to think of as cute or pretty as dogs, cats, etc.

I do have to agree from experience. I was pretty afraid of snakes before I got Jackson. I went to a pet store where a tiny little skinny gal had a red tailed boa wrapped three times around her waist and it's head on her shoulder and thought- "I think I'll go check out the snakes today...". Seeing her snake around her not killing her made me look at them from a different angle, and now I have been completely converted to herp-love.

Re: me and my male pastel got out of the house

I'm not very experienced, I bought my first Ball on 23 Dec 11, but I did find out awfully fast other people, as a general rule, don't like snakes. The first question my mother asked when I told her I was thinking about getting one, "are they the biting or strangling kind"? I've had people ask if he could kill me, if they're poisonous, if they bite etc? I bought him down south (there are no Balls for sale where I live) and when I travelled back up I stayed with family, the majority of the people weren’t pleased that I had him in their homes and over half didn’t even want to look at him. As already stated, snakes are generally misunderstood, and people don’t like them.

Mine are too lazy for that much effort so they all carry sidearms or shivs.

Because snakes don't enjoy being out and about with us running errands or going to the park to play fetch. It's unneeded stress put on the animal, and IMO snakes should be left at home (though I think educational programs where people can see different species of snakes in person and realize they arn't evil or dangerous is awesome and I wish I saw more). But personally, I wouldn't bring my snakes outside my home just because I feel like it since I know they'd be happier and better off at home in their quiet tubs.

If you want to bring your pet around with you everywhere then perhaps you should look into another more social pet, and if you want to "show off" your pet because it's a so-and-so then brag away on the internet. Just my .02 cents (none of this was directed personally at you HerpIsaHobby, just some thoughts about bringing snakes out in public in general)

It sounded like he was gonna eat the people.

    Oh, blast.

I just wasted my money on a rhinestone snake harness and leash set, then.
