It's a 10" dobsonian. Dobsonians are IMO the best bang for your buck. They are much cheaper than refractor telescopes and have very similar optics. My specific telescope is a Hardin 10" dobsonian, brand new (even though Hardin doesn't exist anymore) it would go for about $600-800 for 10". The wider the view, the more expensive.
This, is my main goal one day 
Don't get me wrong, if I could afford an awesome refractor telescopeI would, but those are the ones that cost thousands. Most are motorized and move with the sky, most have go-to finder, which is pretty much a little computer, you plug in what you want to see and it moves on it's own. I like my non-motor though, part of the fun is star hopping and finding things on your own 
Edit: Oh as far as the magnification, it depends on which eye piece I use. I have quite a few, the better ones obviously being more expensive. I can see pretty frickin' far though, lets just say that
