Re: Good lord, no wonder people are so afraid of snakes...
I think the "man-eating super snake" was to be a hybrid between the Burms and the rock python "Something straight out of science fiction" was the running quote. Apparently, a rock python was found somewhere between the Everglades and Miami back in... the '80s? I don't remember now, but it was a while ago. Then another was found in 2005. So, obviously, there is now an invasion of he rock python here in the Everglades I quit watching after the second commercial break.
I've lived here my whole life, and have spent well over a decade going out to all parts of the Everglades, finding my own secret spots and going into places no one has set foot on in decades - I have found panther tracks, evidence of bears (seen one up in Ocala, too), hogs, some scarce bugs, and even a Burm or two. Never have I seen a rock python, and if they're out there in such "great numbers," I think I would have found one by now. I'm not saying that just because I haven't seen them, there aren't any - and other exotic species intentionally or accidentally released out there - but the possibility of a SyFy super-snake happening suddenly? Get real.
AP's shows can be crumpled up and thrown in the garbage pail like so much bad writing. They're a joke.
