Sperm Plug in a female?

Assuming that she goes to the vet and come back confirmed as healthy AND female... yes, I have seem something similar to sperm plugs come from female vents. "Smegma," is what my herp vet called it. The equivalent of cloaca toe jam, I guess... probably a combo of left over shed and stale cloaca fluids. Delicious, right?

It's generally not as "structured" as a sperm plug, but it's about the same consistency when moist.

Well, after googling "smegma" ( I am now thoroughly disgusted btw) I can tell you with absolute certainty that that is what I saw. EXACT same color, consistency, etc. I am going to have her probed at the next reptile show by a friend but i'm 99.9% positive she is a she.

Right? Well, apparently it helps keep the machine running, so I guess we shouldn't complain too much. Even if we don't want to look to closely.

By the way, I was at the herp vet having that particular conversation for exactly the same reason--I wasn't sure if my 2007 het lavender female was actually a FEMALE. Sometimes when you pop females, you see the everted cloacal "horns", and I didn't know that those weren't hemipenes... and then there was the discharge. So I'd taken her in to have her probed and examined by an expert.

This is one of the biggest issues with the hobby/industry. When you pop a snake and see what some think are hemipenes, they actually are not. I had an experience years ago with a rather expensive snake (at the time). Guy told me he had a male and we agreed on a price. When I got the snake, it was a female. It popped and the everted horns were displayed. He swore it was a male, he said he popped it a number of times. But I had to have a vet call him and explain the difference. He was bummed but agreed.

Yeah, My "female" is 3 years old and has been popped numerous times but for all we know "she" just doesn't let her hemipenes out. So, I'll get her probed asap.

She can't "let" you do it. He or she, if popped correctly will indicate exactly which sex the snake is. Now, if the snake is popped incorrectly, a male can possibly be called a female. If you are not seeing the red end/head of the hemipenes and the horns or hemipenes is fully extended, you have a female.

Really? I heard that adult snakes can be very hard to pop because their muscles are much stronger and therefore harder to reveal their sex organs.

As I said, if done correctly. I have popped a 2200 gram male before, so I know it can be done. Now if you have one of them 3500 gram giant females, then possibly. But I still think it could be done.

Shouldn't be a problem. Take a picture while your friend is popping the snake. Many on here will be able to tell you if it's being done correctly and if it is, they will be able to tell you the sex of the snake.
