Need help keeping humidity high !!!! :(

So my first bp shed was bad and ended up requiring a good bath. my humidity in my 40g tank is resting at about 42 - 45 %. I use a coco. husk substrate which i notice to only stay damp after misting for a very short time, a large pile of moss which i keep pretty moist in a corner. I also already have half the top covered with plastic wrap and tinfoil. I heat the tank with a 100w ceramic heat emitter and a 10" x 11" heat pad underneath. both on the same side. He is also going to shed in a week or two so timing is an issue

your personal methods and any more ideas would be greatly appreciated !!

Your going to run into this problem consistently untill you do somethings to slightly modify your current setup.

First off i would cover 60% of the screen with aluminum foil cut and tucked into the screen or as many people do, just a bath towel folded over. I usually mist the towel real well also since it tends to hold moisture for a while also.

A larger water bowl to help maintain humidity. I prefer in a 40 gallon tank a HUGE water bowl or plastic tub even to use as a water bowl. It helps a lot more than you think.

Mist often and thoroughly, once your soil reaches a nice rick dark brown, then you know it's good.

Also possibly to switching over to a good thermostat and 2 or 4 heat pads instead of the ceramic heat emitter would help your humidity by at least 10-15%.

Keeping the humidity up in a large glass tank is always going to be tough at first, but once you get everything right, you'll be good. Remember humid and moist is good, Damp and wet is not.

I discovered that personally, using plastic wrap rather than aluminum foil works well to keep humidity in. I've been having issues with it, but there is a noticeable difference now that I'm using plastic wrap.

ive been using this little trick since i got my first bp and its worked like a charm...
OP take a larger towel or a couple of hand towels... whatevers enough to cover 50-60% of your tank cover and in the morning just go over to the sink and soak the towel/s than ring them out and put them on your tank... ive been doing this for almost 2 years now and i havent had a problem with shedding..... yet.lol

OP take a larger towel or a couple of hand towels... whatevers enough to cover 50-60% of your tank cover and in the morning just go over to the sink and soak the towel/s than ring them out and put them on your tank... ive been doing this for almost 2 years now and i havent had a problem with shedding..... yet.lol

It's the ceramic heat emitter killing you. Get yourself the appropriate size under-tank heat pad. Make sure it is the right size for your tank and the ambient room temperature. Place a piece of substrate carpet on top of the bottom glass to keep your ball from getting burnt when he wants to burrow into the coco husk on the pad because the heat pads get pretty hot. The heat emitters kill the humidity in those cages. Simply cover 90% screen lid with plastic wrap or a towel. Screen tops are terrible for humidity. Heat lamps and heat emitters are simply no good, and in my opinion only seem useful for lizards and monitors who like to bask. Place a hide 1/2 on/off the heat pad, and another on the cold side. If you want a visual cage I recommend a vision cage, with a RBI or helix heat panel. They have solid tops to keep humidity. If you want to house multiple snakes, I'd recommend an adequate tub rack. Also a nice little mist to moisten the coco husk would be great without a heat emitter to cook it out.

Ceramic heat emitters rule, I use foggers to balance my humidity. I never had one of my UTH's raise my humidity unless the water bowl is the 1/2 to 3/4 the size of the UTH and it has to be on top of it. Also, it never raised my ambient temps either, I had to use a 100 watt bulb to do that, and bulbs kill humidity just as well as a ceramic heat emitter...it's not like the heat emitter has a built in humidity killing device. It's just a dead wiring short that creates heat, the same as a bulb except it emits light because the filament in a transparent case.

i have been using the damp towel trick over my tank and it is working like a charm !!! humidity has been consistently 55 % and his got milky eyes so iv turned up the humidity to 65-70 area. this will be his second shed. hope its not incomplete again !

Same here, I was having a serious issue with humidity control until I got a UTH to pair with my 100w Inafred bulb, and covered half of the tank with a really damp hand towel. It works like a charm now.
