Seperating Corns?

Hello there!

I am currently keeping two <1yr old corns together (one male/one female), and have been successfully for some time now. Of course, I feed them separately - and they haven't shown any signs of stress in their current situation.

My question is this: I have absolutely *NO* intention of breeding these two. At what point in do I need to separate them to keep them from doing so? In other words, at around what size to they hit maturation and start going at it?

They'll do it as soon as possible. Frequently males are sexually mature before females. So its possible he could start harassing her trying to breed her when she's not ready. Or she may be ready but too small and then you risk her health.

I'd get them separated ASAP. There are a zillion other reasons to separate them, but not a good one to keep them together.

-Would it be reasonable to move them into their adult cages (25gal) at this time? I didn't know if they would be stressed in that large of a habitat at this stage.

-If they can't be moved to their adult cages, what can they be moved to temporarily? Like plastic tubs or whatnot?

-If they can't be moved to their adult cages, at what size/age can they be?

You could put them in their adult cages, just give them lots of places to hide so they feel secure.

Yeah, they should be fine in their adult cages. As Heretic said, just give them a few different hides and they'll be fine.

UPDATE!

They are happily separated!

I was given a free 50gal, and built a divider to split it in half. We will see if they found their way around the divider in the morning, but it looks promising!

(ps: I padded all the edges of the divider with foam, so they shouldn't be able to injure themselves testing it.)
