    They'll do it as soon as possible. Frequently males are sexually mature before females. So its possible he could start harassing her trying to breed her when she's not ready. Or she may be ready but too small and then you risk her health.

    I'd get them separated ASAP. There are a zillion other reasons to separate them, but not a good one to keep them together.
