    What OS

Which OS do you run on your computer? Why do you like it? Would you prefer another OS? And how do you think it stacks up to the competition?

I personally run windows 7 and I love it!
I like it because of the features and the speed compared to xp
I would like to try more operating systems, but im happy with windows 7
For an entry level OS, I think its hard to beat!

Windows 7 on my laptop, which is what I mostly use. XP on desktop.

    Re: What OS

Ummmmm Ive tried a ton of different os's I'll list them.

    windows server 2008
    mac os x
    xp pro
    vista
    windows 7 (64 bit)
    windows 98
    Suse Linux enterprise 11
    kunbuntu
    google OS

I like Windows 7 a lot, I was really impressed with it, its also the only OS on that list thats a 64 bit OS so I saw a substantial speed increase. which is always good =D.

Kunbuntu was fun but it takes a lot of time to set up.

Mac OS X SUCKED, sorry mac lovers, I just didn't like it, I'm not a mac hater... I own an Iphone. I just didn't like it.

Google OS was fun to play with for a while. I'm actually going to reinstall it and just let it sit for a while, I'm excited to see what more google does with it.

XP is great, end of story! Except that its not 64 bit.. I think there is a 64 bit version but I don't know if its true 64 bit or if it just recognises 64 bit processors.

there will always be a special place in my heart for 98. I learned everything I know about computers on windows 98, although my fist OS was windows 3.1 on a tandy 486, LOL I was 7 years old when I got that!

Is it just me or does it seem to me like microsoft does what they did with vista on purpose... They make a operating system that revolutionizes the OS industry (I.E. the 98 to XP upgrade) then they drop some peace of crap half done OS like vista, (or windows 2000 if you tried that) in the mix to try make more money to fund there next big project... Atleast thats how it seams. lol

windows server 2008 and Suse Linux Ent 11 were both way fun to play with but they just don't seem practical.

    Re: What OS

My main computer is Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. This is my favorite for many reasons. Look, feel, system logging. The Homegroups is a cool concept, but for advanced users, it just becomes a pain. As far as virtualization goes, it does better than any other OS I have used yet.

My main netbook is Windows 7 Home Premium. Perfect for the higher-end netbooks.

Fedora 12 on my webserver...can't wait for 13 to be official in a couple days! LAMP is about the best solution for a reliable webserver. I also use my webserver to organize my digital movie collection. Much easier to handle files than in the Windows environment.

Actually OSX has been 64 bit for several years now. Though its only recently that many of the applications are starting to take advantage of it. Just saying...

    Re: What OS

2 computers - Mac OS X on the one I actually like to use, plus I keep a PC running Vista Ultimate around because I'm a gamer. Yes, I realize I could do that with another version of Vista, but student discounts offered through universities are a wonderful thing, and Ultimate was only $5 more than the "lesser" versions. Basically, I put up with its OS in order to play things like Bioshock, Counter-Strike, and (yes, I'm a nerd and I'm ok with it) Magic Online.

I was a computer science major, so I could never give up having a unix command line (windows does not count), but IMO linux is too much of a pain in the rear to get set up, and Mac OS X has a well-developed UI. It's a great solution - if you're a power user/unix guru, you've got access to that when you need it, but for day to day stuff, the Mac UI is intuitive and nice to work with. It also doesn't hurt that every Mac comes with a developer suite included.

If I had my way, Apple would officially support people building their own machines to run Mac OS, and game developers beyond Blizzard and a select few others would support Mac, and then I'd only need 1 computer. That, sadly, is a pipe dream on all fronts.

    Re: What OS

You're in luck. I thought it was still coming out, but I a quick google shows that Steam is already out for Mac OS, meaning you can play Bioshock and CS on Mac. D:

You might be SOL with magic online or you could try a virtualization program like vmware fusion
