Re: droid (os) vs iphone vs blackberry

I have the HTC Hero (with android). Its my first smart phone and I love it!! The apps are pretty cool and I have so many to choose from that are free to download...it pretty much took the place of my old phone, Mp3 player, watch, alarm clock and everything else...

Re: droid (os) vs iphone vs blackberry

I have both the iPhone and the Blackberry. Which do I prefer..Both..I like the size of my "Pearl" for everyday phone and texy useage. However for email/web/maps/gps/anything other than a phone call I'm digging the iPhone. Would I ever buy an HTC product? I can't say no, I've always had good luck with apple products. I think any tech company should be all inclusive; i.e the company that develops the software should also develope the hardware. I think I may have to steal Robin HTC for an hour or three and just see if it compaires..

You DO think this, or you DON'T? I don't think that they should be - that makes it too closed.

You are welcome to play with my Incredible - as long as you promise to give it back!

Here's something that you can do with Android that you can't do with Blackberry or iPhone - https://www.mobiledefense.com/session/new

Anyone steals your phone and changes the SIM card on the phone, it will e-mail you their name and phone number. You can also send a password protected alarm to the phone (meaning they can't turn it off) and remotely lock the phone with this application. It ROCKS!

Actually your wrong. The Iphone has something very similar except maybe even a little better. With mobile me, you can trace where your phone is using gps right from your computer. You can lock it up or delete everything right from your home. If the person that stole it tries turning it off, you can turn it on from your computer.

Mobile Me is about $100 a year. Not worth it in my book. The other features offered by mobile defense like the password protected alarm is unique to it so it does have featurea that Mobile Me doesn't.

I do think that company's that produce the Hardware should also produce the software OS for that hardware. One of the main complaints and long standing problems PC's (even though I own several PC's) is that Windows try's to accommodate the requirements for hundreds of different makers with thousands of different versions and tens of thousands of different types of the same thing.Any time a new peice of harware comes out you have to wait for Microsoft to release a patch or a new driver so that it will work on your PC, or that newer versions of Windows don't run older (3-5 years old) Hardware properly. One of the things that makes Apple Products more reliable (simply from a technical stand point) is the fat that they don't have to do that.. Apple doesn't have to try and wright a software that will drive millions of different configurations of millions of different pieces of hardware.

Apple knows that their OS will run any apple platform why because they only had to focus on one platform.. When to look at an apple they offer very little in the way of customization, HD size, 1-3 different speeds of the same processor, 1 of 2 different Optical drives and that's about it..

Are they flawless NO.. But does a company that designs every aspect of a produce to work flawless with the other is far more able to focus on fine tuneing their product insead of fixing major flaws. Car makers have done this for years.. While many GM parts are interchangeable with in other GM products, you can't expect a Chevy starter moter and a Ford Intake to work on a Gm plateform..

If a PC company would focus on this exact thing wright a Windows-ish OS with similar GUI and design hardware and software to compliment each other then they could quickly out run Microsoft.

    just my two cents

Oh and there is a nifty one called trapster. It lists all of the speed traps via your navagation. It buzzes and alerts you when you are getting close to one. Couple that with my radar detector in my car and Im all good!!!

Yea I second that...Thats way to expensive especially when it is only $50 to replace a lost or stole phone if you have insurance. I was just stating that there is a security feature out there for the iphone.

I see your point, BUT like you said, there are many computer manufacturers. If say HP had a different os than dell then it might be difficult switching from one brand to another. What microsoft has done is have a general os that will be used by many companies and that most people will be familiar with by using a dell than easily use say a Toshiba. IMO microsoft has a monopoly but there is also a reason that over 75% run windows. Affordability and previous knowledge of a computer with a windows os leads MOST people to buy a microsoft product. But with apple quickly growing they may start spreading to other companies and offering there os. The bottom line is that if you want a os that apple made, you MUST get a mac, if you want a windows os, you are open to MANY companies that offer the os.
