Mobile Me is about $100 a year. Not worth it in my book. The other features offered by mobile defense like the password protected alarm is unique to it so it does have featurea that Mobile Me doesn't.

I was reading that there is the potential they are going to offer it for free. I tried the trial version but didn't really use it to the extent I could have. I liked the added security. You can wipe your phone, pass-code lock it and also send it a text message, you are also able to locate your phone on a map. They also give you an email address, an online GUI to access your mailbox as well, a place to store your pictures online as well in the "cloud".

Actually your wrong. The Iphone has something very similar except maybe even a little better. With mobile me, you can trace where your phone is using gps right from your computer. You can lock it up or delete everything right from your home. If the person that stole it tries turning it off, you can turn it on from your computer.

Mobile Defense does all that as well for FREE! As well as being able to sound an alert from the phone that sounds like a car alarm that can't be turned off without a password that YOU decide when you send it. You can even send a text message to the phone while the alarm goes off that pops up that says whatever you want like "thanks for stealing my phone!" or "I know who you are, and you have my phone!" (or whatever message you want to send)

It can also be used to help you locate your phone if you've mis-placed it and can't find it (by sounding the alarm).

I do think that company's that produce the Hardware should also produce the software OS for that hardware. One of the main complaints and long standing problems PC's (even though I own several PC's) is that Windows try's to accommodate the requirements for hundreds of different makers with thousands of different versions and tens of thousands of different types of the same thing.Any time a new peice of harware comes out you have to wait for Microsoft to release a patch or a new driver so that it will work on your PC, or that newer versions of Windows don't run older (3-5 years old) Hardware properly. One of the things that makes Apple Products more reliable (simply from a technical stand point) is the fat that they don't have to do that.. Apple doesn't have to try and wright a software that will drive millions of different configurations of millions of different pieces of hardware.

Apple knows that their OS will run any apple platform why because they only had to focus on one platform.. When to look at an apple they offer very little in the way of customization, HD size, 1-3 different speeds of the same processor, 1 of 2 different Optical drives and that's about it..


Are they flawless NO.. But does a company that designs every aspect of a produce to work flawless with the other is far more able to focus on fine tuneing their product insead of fixing major flaws. Car makers have done this for years.. While many GM parts are interchangeable with in other GM products, you can't expect a Chevy starter moter and a Ford Intake to work on a Gm plateform..

If a PC company would focus on this exact thing wright a Windows-ish OS with similar GUI and design hardware and software to compliment each other then they could quickly out run Microsoft.

And this is coming from an Apple fanboy! I have four macs, an Apple TV, two iPhones (3G & 3GS) and Mac mini. I had little faith in the Incredible and figured it was just another piss poor attempt to topple the iPhone. I was wrong. The Incredible truly kicks ass.

Well free would definitely make it more attractive. The Cloud storage is good in theory, but it's a pain to actually use. If you've loaded a movie for example and you have to pause it to do something else on the phone you have to start it from the beginning when you go back into it. The email address they give you ends up just being used to receive news from Apple most of the time as most people don't want to switch to a new email. You can't access MobileMe from all browsers, either. It doesn't work on IE, for example which is all I can use at work.
The phone location is cool, but when I tried it once for kicks it was accurate to within 1.6 miles using a 3GS so it wouldn't be much help if stolen.
Motorola offers the same thing on their MotoBlur devices that I tried and it was accurate to within 44 yards.

I use a BB and I actually manage them (about 15 users) for a small business. Although there isn't much software for it, I'm pretty happy with it.

At this moment, on a business level, BB dominates market share because of it's ease of management and pretty damn smooth integration with Microsoft Exchange. However, Apple is making serious headway, and in fact, the upper management (meaning the president/CEO and another executive) are looking at switching to iPhones once they come to Verizon. btw... If anyone uses their iPhone with their work email and want to talk to me about it, let me know

I've never used a Palm, but they have NO market share and little software developed. Never used an Android either.

For home/non business users (most people), iPhone is really nice because of all the available software.




Actually you can do this with BB's for free without 3rd party software. All versions of Blackberry Enterprise Server have remote kills, and (just released 1-2 months ago) is a 100% free version, "Blackberry Enterprise Server Express"

Depends on the day

I have a nexus one and a Jailbroken/unlocked Iphone 2g, both on T-mobile, I switch back and forth depending on how I'm feeling that day.

blackberry is the best for corp stuff, thats about it.

Personally I prefer my nexus, I am trying to decide whether or not to get rid of my iphone because I hate jobs much LOL! Only reason I even got it was because I wanted to learn to jailbreak/unlock it.

Hacking things like that is a hobby of mine.

I'll have to double check but I believe there is an iphone app that does exactly that. Its just not an Itunes app

K So I sat down and read the whole thread instead of just the last two pages.

to the guy that said he jailbroke his iphone and bricked it.... I think you mean it got stuck and you restored it because you didn't know how to fix it. Bricking something means that it is just that... A brick, it can't be fixed. By deffinition iphones are unbrickable because of the restore option. Not trying to be rude, just pointing out a fact.

What Jailbreaking/Unlocking does :

Jailbreaking an Iphone allows it to run on T-mobile... At&t and t-mobile have a similar baseband. when you jailbreak the iphone it allows it to be used on t-mobiles network. =P

Unlocking an Iphone allows you to use 3rd party apps. There are a TON of apps and modifications that can be done to the iphone through the cydia network. Basically cydia is itunes with out Steves psyco controlfreak rules (also no music). Cydia apps have tons of stuff! Inculding things to change the background of your iphone, your fonts, springboard res, tethering, multi-tasking. Heck theres even a beta flash out there.
