I do the same with the poultry eggs I incubate. It's purely so they can breathe, not so I can dump them out early-that would kill them.
I do the same thing Haven't had any python eggs yet, but once the chick or duck or whatever it is pips, I make the hole bigger so they can breath, and it's definitely helped.
I'll probably do the same with BP eggs. Probably not a big gaping whole, but a flap, at least.
