    Tattoo Taboo?

I wanted to get two tattoos, one on my left ankle and one on my right. One would be a Rosary for my Grandmother and the other would be something I found in my Grandfathers wallet a few years back. (Two religious symbols on a string. I think one is a saint and the other I don't know)

I was told that I shouldn't get those tattoos yet because both my Grandparents are still alive and it would be a "bad omen" if I did.

I don't necessarily agree with that, but it did get the wheels in my head turning.

What do you think? Tattoo Taboo or not?

Your placing ink under your skin not opening the gates of hell and throwing them in..I think the most flattering thing for a tattoo is to have it be a tribute to someone still living. Honor the dead but celebrate the living. A living trubute to your grandpartents while they are still around to see how you honor them is a great thing in my mind.

I don't believe in bad omens or anything like that either. People get their kids' names tatooed on them a lot and they're fine

i dont think getting a tat in honor of someone thats alive is bad at all, i personaly wouldnt get someones name or initals in or on a cross tho (my ex pissed me off by getting my sons name in a cross) i think that is something you do after death. thats me tho if you look at alot of peeps tats and they explain them to you alot of people see diff things in diff tats. it all comes down to how you feel about the tat you are the one that has to wear it for life

i think the bad omens are more for relationships, and it isnt so much a bad omen more that most relationships dont last and people always look for reasons why

This is very true. Personally, I see nothing wrong with getting what you want. I'm not one bit religious or superstitious, though, so I might not be seeing what is 'offensive' about it to others. You being happy with it is what matters, though, because it's your body. Some people might not like it and judge you for it but that's going to happen in life anyway, one way or another.

If you do get it, post pictures

My Grandparents don't agree with tattoos but they do appreciate them as art and I think they would be flattered.

I brought that up and they said it's not the same thing because those are your kids and you made them. Or something like that. But I love my Grandparents and they mean the world to me so I don't see it as being different at all.

No names in those Tattoos. Just the Rosary and the Saint and the other symbol. I can explain it to someone if they ask, and they always do. :]
I think it's weird when people put names in crosses or religious symbols. I'm not super religious or anything but I don't think they belong there.

I would never tattoo a guys name on me unless I had a son. Then maybe I would think about it.

    Re: Tattoo Taboo?

I really don't think any tattoo anyone gets is weird or wrong. It's their skin, and if it means something to them, then it's just fine.

I disagree with decorating yourself with symbols of hatred, or with tattoos just because you have ten bucks and a cheap parlor nearby. But if you have a tattoo you want, that means something, even if it only means it's beatuiful to you, then it's a fine thing.

If your grandparents would OBJECT, then I'd say it wouldn't be honoring them, but as long as they would be pleased, there should be no reason you can't. The only "omen" is in people's minds.

One of my tattoos honors my 'family' and thus refers to living people, the other one honors my late husband. So I have both. I'll have a tattoo done soon that is merely for the art of it, and may have another with deeper meaning done later on. It's my skin, so I feel I can put whatever I like on it. I just remember that I'll be carrying these 'art marks' for my entire life. So I never get anything that is a impulse or meaningless.

I don't think my Grandparents would object to it. I have one on my upper back for my Aunt who passed away when I was 9. I was really close to her and I look just like her. I showed my Grandma as soon as I finished it and she thought it was beautiful. Almost all her kids and Grandchildren have tattoos cuz her son, my uncle, is a tattoo artist. She thinks tattoos are pretty but I don't think she likes the fact that they'll be there forever.
