Re: Cops episode - killing a harmless snake

    Easy "hot" people.
Pretty much everyone calls venomous snakes poisonous. I know I do and always have.
Back to topic: I've had a police officer buddy of mine tell me stories about people calling the police about snakes in their yard. POLICE ABUSE LOL
The only one he had to respond to, was to a snake that disappeared.!

    For some reason this

""I was driving to my home on Polk Street and saw this SUV on the side of the road and I what I thought was a stick in the road," he said. "But as I got closer I said, 'That ain't no stick.' And then as I got closer I realized, 'Shoot, that's snake.' Then I got even closer and I thought 'That's a python!' Then, it started attacking the truck.""

Doesnt make me think of someone whos all that intelligent...

    Re-Enactment-
"That aint no dargone stick... Shoot. thats one'a them 'Conda things aint it? ...saw a movie bout them one time.. nasty things."

    and this...

Ahlin said he was concerned his 50-pound dog would jump out the window and suddenly "become a snack for that snake."

"I'll tell you, this snake was big enough it could have swallowed a kid," he said. "I mean the girth on that thing was huge."

The girth??? Is like 2-2.5" Yeah it could deffinatley fit a kid in there... theyre elastic dont ya know?

Yeah this story was on like Redtailboa.com (or is it.net?? uhh..). I'm not sure how I found it because I never even go on that site at all, but I read this story a long time ago.

I know... that story was even more ridiculous (than the Cops episode), to the point where I was actually laughing. Watch out, that "burmese python" is going to eat your Hummer!! Puuuuuulleeeease.

I'm a 5'5" woman, for goodness sakes, and have more testosterone than these men... even my gay (male) roommate is more manly, LOL. If that BOA really was attacking your truck, is that actually a threat? As far as I know, even the biggest reticulated python couldn't eat through metal.

Re: Cops episode - killing a harmless snake

Btw, I work in the educational field (high school librarian), and have been thinking about doing a reptile program... probably can't bring any live snakes, except maybe a corn, due to city restrictions on pythons/boas. But the more I hear about misinformed citizens, the more anxious I am for them to learn.

Kids are really receptive, especially when it comes to animals, and will hopefully pass on the information to their parents. While you won't encounter many wild snakes here, it doesn't hurt to know... plus I could inspire a future herper in the process. Maybe I'll contact East Bay Viv, since they did a great presentation at my old library - which actually led to me getting my first BP (from them). I'm sure the students would love it, especially that GIANT monitor who always steals the show.

Re: Cops episode - killing a harmless snake

Yeah, ignorance really gets to me, considering snakes are killed simply because people don't KNOW. Heck, most of the time they don't even want to. A couple of months ago, I didn't want to. Then, I was made to take the time to get to know a couple. Now, I happily have my first herp. It just gets to me when people kill relatively harmless creatures simply because they don't like them. I don't kill flies, or spiders, or anything, unless I see it as a threat. Snakes are now included in the harmless list, unless I know it is truly a threat. Yesterday, my sister killed a ribbon snake. Because she was afraid it would bite and kill my neice. What the heck?! It was in her kitchen, scant feet from the door, and she kills it without even blinking. I hate that. Its obvious that it was harmless. It couldn't even fit my thumb in its mouth. Did it stop her? No. The stigma the general public has attached to snakes, and reptiles (other animals too, but this is a herp site) in general is sickening and it makes me ashamed to say I felt the same way a few scant months ago. In short, the public needs to be educated, because they are destroying a wonderful thing.

I apologise for the rant. It needed to get out.

I am terrified of spiders, big or small... but since I realize it's a totally irrational fear (unless we're talking brown recluse or something), I try not to hurt them. The other day I spotted one inside my car, on the windshield as I was getting out. I screamed like a little girl, and then composed myself enough to scoop it up (on a piece of paper), and toss it outside. No need to kill the creature, just because it gives me the willies - right?

LMAO... you can clearly see that's impossible by the picture, as his average-sized hands are easily gripping the snake. Unless he has the thinnest child in the world, who also happens to smell & taste like a rodent, I don't think they're in any danger.

"Get those :cens0r: snakes off this :cens0r: plane!"
