I always hear so many people condemn the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and to this day, I do not understand it.
1st: Just as many people died just from one night of fire bombing Tokyo, yet no one mentions that. I'd rather get nuked any day than be in a fire bombing.
2nd: Bombing those two cities is what finally made Japan consider ending the war. Even after bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki Japan still didn't want to surrender. The emperor very reluctantly decided to do it and if it wasn't for a very odd chain of events, he was about to be overthrown and the war would of have continued.
Dropping those bombs saved hundreds of thousands of American soldier's lives, as well as hundreds of thousands, if not millions of Japanese lives that would have otherwise fought to the death or just committed suicide.

I believe it was the Emperor who wanted to surrender, in fact he was trying to surrender to the Russians (which is stupid) before the bombing of either city but his cabinent members were not 100% in agreeance with it. The offer of surrender to the Russians(again, stupid but they were already on the ground in mainland Japan making their way south) was carried out in secret due to the cabinet members(involving the whole overthrow thing I do believe). I did an essay on this in college and used several reports that were made by our Government after the war that pointed to an invasion of Japan as highly unlikely due to a possible surrender by Japan. But then again my brain does not exactly work as it used to anymore so I might be completely wrong on that.
Very true on the fire bombing of Tokyo. Many, many, many people died in those attacks.
Either way, it was the only thing we could do at the time with the knowledge we had. It was the safest bet.
ETA: As I was, they attempted to use Russia to communicate to the allies for a peace talk, not to surrender to them. I will try to find the original documents if anyone is interested.

1) Obama is not a Muslim
2) Even if he was, it wouldnt bother me. This country celebrates freedom of religion (or FROM it lol).
3) I doubt he hates America. I have been accused of the same, though, simply because I am opposed to war, and I don't hate Middle Eastern people. There is room in our great land for all views! I was miserable during the Bush years, and often ashamed, so I can understand how those opposed to Obama may feel now as I did then.

I disagree, but I'm sure you disagree with my views, so, for the sake of preventing the mods' getting upset, truce?
