Re: 2nd Pre Lay Shed
It means you keep breeding if you want to till she ovulates or untill you decied to wait untill next year
When you've got 10,000 people trying to do the same thing, why would you want to be number 10,001? ~ Mark Cuban "for the discerning collector"

Re: 2nd Pre Lay Shed
I know of someone that one of their females had their prelay shed, then shed again two weeks later, then laid a clutch of eggs two weeks after that shed. So the the clutch was laid 30 days (within a day or so) of the prelay shed, but also had a shed in between. Not sure whats up with that, but it did happen, I happened to be there when she went into the second shed.

So this could mean that they are locking just for fun

Re: 2nd Pre Lay Shed
I've got a female that was expected to lay a couple of weeks ago. I set up the incubator and everything, just like you did. No eggs from her yet. I'm going to wait until fall to pair her up again. There is still a chance that both of our snakes can lay eggs this year. Best of luck to you! Jason

If they are still locking up, then she has not ovulated. A female will not lock up with a male after ovulation has occurred.

It could have simply been a stress shed.

Re: 2nd Pre Lay Shed
Once you see the ovulation, they usually when lock up anymore. Then from the ovy date 14-17 days later you'll have the pre lay shed. Then from there anywhere from 25-30 days in general.Key date is ovulation....

Agree with Robin. I would add that there is a localized mid-body swell that is not an ovulation -- but rather extreme follicle development. I don't catch all of them with "follicle swelling" -- maybe all girls don't get it.
It seems to occur 2-4 weeks before actual ovulation. This swelling fooled me 3-4 times last season (my first). I kept waiting for the POV shed, only to realize upon seeing the real ovulation some weeks later, that she had not yet ovulated. Could be that this is your situation.
