Well Elena probably thinks that Casey won't steal from HER... but having a theif in your house, co-founding or running websites with someone who behaves the way Casey does... Elena had better watch her own reputation, lest it get tarnished just by association. Many people would look at someone who is co-in charge of a website, while Casey is bullying and trying to cover up her theft and see a person is who okay with all of it going on.
I'm not saying she's is okay with it, or that she is bad in any way.... but it's a big big risk to a good reputation to be associating with someone like that and making excuses for her. Saying "oh gee Casey is super upset and just didn't know what to do" when it's plain that she knew she stole the mouse, admitted it wasn't hers, refused over and over to give up the stolen goods, and deleted threads, banned people, etc doesn't make it look very much like she cares what her roommate and co-founder of websites does. Casey is not a child who might just need some lessons in how to do what's right. She's a grown woman, right? Getting anxious over getting busted in a theft is not a valid excuse for her behavior.
